So AB2 turned 6 years old recently and while that is a nice mile stone, I just cant celebrate AB2's anniversary because well.....I just don't like the game. Angry Birds 2 is an example on how NOT to make a sequel to a mobile game. Here is my thoughts on Angry Birds 2:
Chapter 1: The stuff I like
There is actually some stuff I like about AB2 believe it or not. first of all, the graphics, MY GOD does this game look nice, this game might have the best graphics in the entire Angry Birds franchise!.....That's all the things I like about the game tho....WELP time to get to why I don't like the game!
Chapter 2: Level design and difficulty
The levels in Angry Birds 2 are procedurally generated, so every time you play a level, you will see a new level layout every time except for the boss levels (Witch we will get to later)......do you see the problem here? Making the levels procedurally generated will not only make it impossible to practice the levels, but it also makes the levels incredibly easy and unengaging to play. In Angry Birds 1, you have to carefully fling your birds at buildings, and if you did it right, you get 3 stars!, it encouraged strategy and experimenting with how you can get 3 stars in the level. Angry Birds 2 on the other hand is just "Mindlessly fling birds at stuff until you win" There is ZERO strategy by making the levels procedurally generated and just makes the game boring to play. This also makes it impossible to utilize the birds abilities. Since the previous Angry Birds games had the benefit of....not being procedurally generated, they were able to make engaging levels using the birds abilities. They used the birds abilities to there advantage and made fun levels out of them. But since AB2's levels are procedurally generated, it never gets the chance to make fun and engaging levels using the birds abilities. And this is especially true for the new bird.
Part 2 coming soon!
