So recently the AB journey came out, which is also the first slingshot game in a while (Not counting AB AR and VR because there VR games) So out of curiosity, I decided to play it. Spoiler alert: It's not great, I had very low expectations going into the game and I have come to the conclusion that....well this is certainly an Angry Birds game...but it's not a good one, here's why:
Chapter 1: The art style
Oh my- The artstyle looks afwul. They tried redesigning the movie designs and they turned out baaaad. What did they do to the pigs OH MY GOD THEIR HIDIOUSE- Ya, this art style suuuuucks. It just looks so ugly, I actually would rather have the birds turned into hatchlings than.....this
Chapter 2: Level design
I'm pretty split on how they handled level design. They basically made birds your turns, and when you run out of birds you also run out of turns. On one hand, this is great! Because it forces you to think carefully on where you shoot your birds and to NOT randomly fling them mindlessly (Unlike AB 2) however on the other hand the game's levels themselves are incredibly easy, like with AB 2 they don't utilize the birds abilities all that much because the levels are soooo easy. However, there is one thing that makes the level design suffer the most. And that is, THEY GOT RID OF THE STAR SYSTEM. Yes, you heard me right one of the most defining features of Angry Birds, they got rid of. WHY?!?!? The star system encouraged strategy and added replayability into the games, by removing it, you are basically taking out ALL strategy and replayability and throwing it out of the window. They were so close to having great level design but they had to screw it up somehow.
Part 2 coming soon!
