Now you might be wondering "Hey, didn't you already review on the run season 2?" Ya I know, but the main reason why I'm doing a re-review is because I was not very proud of my original review. I was way too dramatic in that review and some of my opinions (some not all) have changed a bit. Plus I found more problems with this trainwreck of a season so let's get into the re-review!
Chapter 1: The humor
I changed my mind on stuff like the humor, I think it's mostly on par with season 1. However, there’s still some incredibly unfunny humor here, such as one joke in episode 13 where all the birds say “NO” in an overly dramatic way that would have been funny if did not last so long, or a montage in episode 4 that lasts the entire episode and very cringe-worthy to watch. But aside from that, the humor is passable.
Chapter 2: Plot holes, Retcons and continuity issues
My GOD are there so many of these
So apparently the Ipad can send the birds to a RANDOM jungle when it malfunctions. even though season 1 established that the Ipad is a portal from the real world to the game world. This is not only a continuity error but also brings up the question of how the Ipad works
The season practically forgets about the time limit that was set upon the birds in season 1, so that’s another continuity error
Where did Stella and Matilda come from? Did they come from the same Ipad or a different one entirely? The former can't be true because season 1 established that Red, Chuck, and Bomb went missing. And the ladder is on VERY shaky ground because season 2 does not explain where they came from. So that’s not just a plot hole but also a retcon
Why did it send them to different places each?
Oh and the most obvious plot hole is how the iPad magically teleports conveniently right next to them because logic is overrated according to On the Run season 2
Where the hell are the humans, are they gone from the series completely? Shouldn't they be looking for the birds and pigs?
Chuck’s motive for being a villain makes ZERO sense. Red never treated him poorly, the only thing closest to what he is saying is red getting annoyed at him for fooling around in the 1st season.
Chapter 3: The pacing
Season 2 feels VERY rushed in its pacing (especially the finale) however despite it being shorter than season 1, it feels a bit longer at times. Also, the fact that there are filler episodes in a significantly shorter season is not only baffling but also affects the pacing. The first half feels very slow and contains lots of filler, and the second half is incredibly rushed. The filler and its length clearly negatively affected the pacing
Chapter 4: Forced fan service
I already talked about how Stella and Matilda’s presence retcons the first season, but let’s examine this further, both of the characters were clearly shoved into the series for fan service, without thinking of how it would affect the quality of the story. However, I have another theory as the why Rovio put them here. It’s because they knew that the story was terrible and thought that the fans (Or the children that watch the series) would simply eat it up as long as Stella and Matilda were in the story. Adding them in feels like such a last-minute decision that Rovio did when season 2 was almost complete, and Rovio, thinking that the fans would eat it up just shoved Matilda and Stella into the story just for the sake of fan service.
Chapter 5: So, do I think season 3 will be any good?
That’s a VERY big maybe. One back of my mind said that season 3 will be good and WILL be an improvement over the second season, Buuuuut the other back of my mind says season 3 will be even worse than season 2. Through its plot holes, bad pacing, filler, and stupid fanservice, season 2 is just a massive disappointment.
Chapter 6: Conclusion
Season 2 is still an absolute disaster of a season, it’s one of my biggest disappointments, ever. I hope you liked my re-review, after this, I’m gonna make my AB slingshot stories review which will be the end of season 1. Season 2 of my reviews will begin in 2022 when I review AB summer madness. See you guys! And Happy (late) Holidays!!!
