Back in 2014 (Ya know before Angry Birds went to crap?) There were 3 AB TV series airing, of which I would like to call the classic trilogy of AB tv shows. Those being Angry Birds Toons, Piggy Tails, and the series we will be talking about today, Angry Birds Stella. This series has always been my favorite AB TV series and this review will explain why.
Chapter 1: The animation
It looks gorgeous, super-expressive, and looks REALLY GOOD. Take notes Slingshot stories, this is how you do CGI animation. There are so many good moments where the animation is at its best. It looks amazing
Chapter 2: Its unique attribute
AB Stella has the most unique attribute out of any AB Tv series, that is it’s the first story-driven AB Tv series. It has an actual world, characters, and a story. Yes, you heard me right, this series introduced burd lore. It has some great world-building and actual characters to get attached to, and a great story. This series proved that AB TV series can tell compelling stories (Not saying that Toons and Piggy Tails were bad, FAR from it in fact, but Stella has more of a story to tell than the other series and I applaud the series for that)
Chapter 3: Stella and Gale’s friendship
All the characters are likable and have great and fun personalities. They have such an interesting dynamic with Gale, who has been corrupted by the golden egg, particularly with how Gale and Stella’s friendship has been affected by it. Stella and Gale’s friendship is my favorite aspect of this entire show, episodes focusing on their now broken friendship is one of my favorite episodes in the series (well, aside from one episode). Their friendship is best shown off in To The Bitter End and Best Friends whenever. In To The Bitter End, Gale and Stella work together to escape the volcano and it shows that even if Gale is corrupted by the golden egg, Stella will care for her and try to save her. And in Best Friends whenever Stella cares for Gale after she was injured by the volcano. It again shows that Stella and Gale’s friendship will live on, no matter what gets in the way (In this case, the golden egg).
Chapter 4: World Building
Stella has some great worldbuilding that keeps you engaged throughout. In every episode, even the bad ones, there is a hint of an ancient civilization. This series introduced fantasy and it makes the series even more interesting and unique from other AB Tv series. Golden Island is the most interesting setting the series has seen yet. The Golden egg is such a fascinating relic in the series, and through it, we can see how this egg corrupts the mind. Making whoever can't resist it obsess and become hellbent on getting it. I really wished this series got a season 3 because then it would expand more on the lore Stella has.
Chapter 5: Bad qualities
Unfortunately, even series as good as this one have their shortcomings. First of all, I feel that season 2 is not as good as season 1. It’s far from a bad season, its MILES better than on the run season 2, however, its highs, for the most part, weren't as high as season 1 and it had much lower lows than season 1. It is a good and natural conclusion to the series, however, I felt it could be a lot better in some categories. Also, the series ended fairly abruptly. Like, in You Asked For It it just cuts to Stella unfreezing all the plants that were turned to stone, and then that’s the end. Also, I really wished we got to see how Gale was like before she was corrupted by the golden egg. We did see a little bit of that in the first two episodes, however, those episodes portray her friendship with Stella at its worst. It didn't change much since I was still invested in their friendship in the rest of the series but it would have been nice to see how gale was before she was corrupted by the golden egg.
Chapter 6: Conclusion/Why the tf didn't Rovio give this series a season 3 whyyyyyyyyyy
Out of all the short-lived AB TV series, Stella feels like the one that Rovio really did dirty. I feel like after On the Run AB TV series started to decline in quality. Toons and Stella got killed at the same time in 2016 with Piggy Tales being the last survivor until 2019, making it the longest-running show in the franchise. Newer TV series just weren't as good as the older ones imo. Stella is my favorite AB tv-series and I hope this review does a good job of explaining why. No series will be able to beat this one and it will always come on top.
Score:
9/10
I highly recommend this series, it may have ended 6 years ago but even today it's amazing.
