Summary[]
One morning, Chuck decides to explore the beach. While his search initially turns up nothing more than an empty can, he soon discovers a treasure map hidden under the sand. Upon closer inspection, Chuck realizes that the map is of Piggy Island, with an X marked in Banjo Bayou. He decides to show The other birds what he found. The Blues are delighted, and ask to go with Chuck, but Red shoots them down, telling them that they're supposed to be picking fruit. Red is also unable to accompany Chuck, as he's busy guarding The Eggs. Red does provide Chuck with a Balloon, and tells him to release it if he gets into trouble. Red also warns Chuck of an approaching storm. Chuck dismisses this, saying he isn't afraid of a little rain, and goes on his way. The Blues decide that Red knows nothing, and trail Chuck without his or Red's knowledge.
Chuck soon finds himself on the bridge of a Pig fortification, which is being guarded by several Minions. The Blues manage to sneak ahead of Chuck without him noticing, stuffing moss in the ears of the sleeping Minion Pigs to give Chuck an easier time sneaking around them. Chuck makes it across the bridge without incident, eventually getting to the edge of Banjo Bayou. Unfortunately, he soon finds himself entangled in what he believes to be a spider web, and is unable to free himself. The Blues make their presence known by freeing Chuck from the net. Chuck thanks them, but tell them they need to go back to gathering fruit. Chuck promises to not tell Red that they disobeyed him so long as They don't tell Red that Chuck got caught in a bunch of cords. They agree, and Chuck tells the triplets to stop following him.
Chuck ends up being carried through the river by a pad of grass, which leads him to a tree containing the treasure. Before he can open it, however, the grass raft jerks forward, causing him to hit his head and get knocked out. When he awakens, he tries to swim to shore only to be caught in quick sand. Chuck is begrudgingly forced to release the balloon, but the oncoming storm blows it into a tree, popping it. To make matters worse, the freshly brewed storm is hitting the quicksand with rain, causing Chuck to sink deeper and deeper. Chuck is suddenly accosted by a ghostly figure, and passes out for a second time.
When he awakens, he finds that he was saved by The Blues, who, unsurprisingly, didn't stop following him after the net incident. The three explain that the monster Chuck was afraid of was a sheet ghost made out of the cloth from the net Chuck was caught on earlier, embarrassing him further. Since the map was lost to the quicksand, the four are forced to look for the treasure themselves. Evening soon arrives, and the group decide to call it quits. Before they go, however, Chuck spots the treasure box he saw in the hollowed out tree, and reasons that the storm must have flushed it out.
The box is full of a large quantity of food, meaning that The Blues likely won't have to go foraging for fruit for a while. When they return to camp, Red is initially furious, but is more than happy to see the box of food they've returned with. The book ends with the birds throwing a party while Chuck and The Blues talk about their adventure.
