- "Join the Angry Birds as they attempt to get their precious eggs back from the dastardly King Pig!"
- — Tagline, Thorpe Park[1]
Angry Birds: The Ride (also known as Angry Birds: The Lunatic Journey), is a 3D/4D film created and used for a variety of media-based Angry Birds theme park attractions. The film exists in two variations: a ten-minute, 30 second version for 4D theaters (branded as Angry Birds 4D Experience or Angry Birds: The 4-D Experience), and a shortened five-minute version for motion simulator rides.

The ride starts with Red hopping back to the nest to give the Eggs hats and sun lotion. He is later met up with Chuck, Bomb, The Blues and Stella to practice attacking the Pigs with a mock structure. It is later revealed that Foreman Pig and Corporal Pig are hiding behind one of the Cardboard Cutouts and plan to steal the eggs. When The Flock arrives back to the nest, the eggs are missing. The birds are confused and Bomb explodes as a result. Red looks around and sees the pigs take a kart down a Seedway-like track, which makes the birds obtain their vehicles to regain their eggs.
The pigs attempt to stop the birds by placing traps around the track, but the attempts remain futile to Red, who catches up to the pigs and the eggs. When Red is about to get the eggs back, Mechanic Pig arrives in a helicopter-type contraption (similar to something found in Bad Piggies) and collects the eggs back for the pigs. When the birds don't know what to do next, Stella comes up with an idea of using her bubble blower to float to the helicopter. Then without notice, a space portal opens, dragging Red, Chuck, The Blues, Bomb and the pigs inside. The birds receive their Space transformations and follow the pigs once more.
In Space, the pigs are in spacecraft and travel to Pig Bang with the eggs. The birds see one remaining egg floating near them and attempt to go near it. This is stopped by King Pig who has just arrived. The Birds go to a nearby planet with a Slingshot and play a level of Angry Birds Space to get the eggs back. When completing the level, all nearby TNT explodes and both birds and pigs retreat back into the portal. When falling into orbit, Stella is back with Balloons to help the flock safely land.
The birds then float down to Pig City and attack, but all of them end up getting captured except Red. Red goes to a nearby slingshot and aims directly for a stack of TNT in King Pig's castle. Red then misses and lands on a supporting structure on the roof. When the pigs are laughing at him, Red knocks a small piece of Stone onto the pile of TNT and destroys the castle. The Flock then decides to launch King Pig from the slingshot with Fireworks on him, which explodes in the sky with a montage of the birds in firework form.
Installations[]
Notable installations include the "Angry Birds 4D Experience" at Thorpe Park in Chertsey, Surrey, England, operating between 2014 and 2023;[2][3] and "Angry Birds: The Ride" at Isfanbul, Turkey, operating between 2015 and 2021.[4] Both were developed in conjunction with Simworx, though featuring significantly different hardware between them:
- The Thorpe Park installation was a 4D Cinema attraction forming part of the Angry Birds Land area, incorporating multiple in-theater effects such as water, smoke, vibration, bubbles and a unique "catapult" motion effect.[2][3]
- The Isfanbul installation utilized a 25-seat Cobra Dark Ride[5] motion simulator vehicle, along with aroma, bubble, wind and water spray effects.[4]
Both the "Ride" and "4D Experience" versions are also offered as stock films by SimEx-Iwerks, available for use in various simulator and 4D theater-type attractions.[6][7] To promote these, an interactive photo op area was designed and displayed at the 2015 IAAPA Expo as part of SimEx-Iwerks' trade booth, featuring a life-sized catapult prop and signage referring to the "4-D Experience" variation.[8]
Documented North American installations of "Angry Birds: The Ride" include the Extreme Ride Theater at Adventuredome, Las Vegas (operational as of November 2023),[9], the Indianapolis Zoo in March 2016[10], and Ripley's Moving Theater in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada during July and August 2017.[11][note 1]
By 2022, the "Angry Birds: The Ride" installation at Isfanbul appeared to be defunct; the simulator hardware being refurbished and rethemed into a new attraction at the rebranded Vialand theme park.[12] On 31 October, 2023, Thorpe Park's "Angry Birds 4D Experience" was shown to guests for the last time, prior to replacement with the "Ready Player One: 4D Experience" for the 2024 season.[13][14][15]
Trivia[]
- Bomb's 3D model in the ride is based on his classic design, rather than his modern Toons design or his Slingshot Stories design.
Errors[]
- Corporal Pig leaves his helmet in the bird practice area, but later has it back.
