This article or section is in the process of an expansion or major restructuring. You are welcome to assist in its construction by editing it as well. If this article or section has not been edited in several days, please remove this template. The reason for this page to be under construction is it needs the content from here, and early Cosmic Crystals levels have been found in a folder, according to tcrf. Also, there's a lot of things in the prototypes not documented here.

This page contains unused content found in Angry Birds Space.

Prototypes[]

  • There are six prototypes known to exist in the TestFlight Teraleak, with 5/6 of them being found, only one being lost, a build known as "1.1.0 #4" in it's metadata, but because it was removed from TestFlight before the 2015 archive happened, it's lost media for now.

February 9th, 2012[]

  • This prototype is known as "1.0.0" in game and "1.0.0 #3" in it's TestFlight metadata.
  • Cold Cuts is named "Ice is Nice".
  • Danger Zone is named "Far Out".
  • There exists an unused sprite sheet in this prototype that contains sprites for the unused Snowball Bird, Drill Bird, and Blackhole Bird, alongside the original sprites of The Flock, and an early Lazer Bird design.
    • The aforementioned unused three birds's abilities are as follows:
      • Snowball Bird's ability is the same as Ice Bird.
      • Blackhole Bird's ability would be to create black holes, which was later reworked into the Space Egg.
      • Drill Bird's ability would be to drill through blocks using its beak.
  • The cutscenes have a very different design, looking more like colored comic book sketches, instead of the fully digital art design the final version uses.
  • The unused spaceAmbient01 ambience track from the final game is used here for Cold Cuts' ambience.
  • All the birds have the aiming laser color of Ice Bird, in the final game, each bird has a uniquely colored aiming laser.
  • The Eggsteroids levels are in a different order.
  • The main theme, albeit unused in this build, is in the files, and sounds different.

February 28th, 2012[]

  • This prototype is known as "0.3.2" in game and in it's TestFlight metadata.
  • Oddly, this build is the only one to have a "0.x.x" version number, despite it being newer than the 1.0.0 #3 prototype.
  • This build contains uncompiled Lua scripts, which reveal comments in the code, which has unused code/features, comments were removed from the final 1.0.0, since the Lua scripts were compiled in that version.
  • The cutscenes are finalized.
  • The ambience tracks are finalized.
  • Cold Cuts is named "Two-Hog Night".
  • Danger Zone's name is finalized.

March 5th, 2012[]

  • This prototype is known as "1.0.0" in game and in it's TestFlight metadata.
  • This build contains uncompiled Lua scripts, like 0.3.2.

May 23rd, 2012[]

  • This prototype is known as "1.2.0" in game and in it's TestFlight metadata.
  • This build is notable for being a retail demo of the game, used on display iPads.
    • Many features are disabled because of it being a retail demo.

June 20th, 2012[]

  • This prototype is known as "1.2.2" in game and "1.2.2 #2" in it's TestFlight metadata.
  • This build is pretty much the same as the final 1.2.2 update, outside of the debugging cheats being turned on.

January 21, 2015[]

When the 2.1.0 update came out (on January 21, 2015), the released Android version with ads was, at first, a prototype. Rovio corrected such mistake in a matter of hours.[1]

Below are the differences between this prototype and the final version (which included the Mirror World, Brass Hogs, and the daily mission system).

It has many glitches. The visuals and gameplay, although close to final, are still unfinished.

In the prototype, Brass Hogs has 30 main world levels (strangely named 10-1 through 10-30, requiring mission points for unlocking):

  • 25 levels made it to the final version, many of them with minor alterations, such as decoration and other object placements. (The order/numbering of the levels is also different.)
  • Four levels did not appear in the final release, and went totally unused.
  • One level would end up redesigned as Froot Loops Bloopers level 2, in the same update.

As for their mirror levels, they unlock as expected, but were not yet designed: despite being flipped and darkened, they are either exact copies of the base levels, or even earlier versions of them, judging by some slight differences, and by the fact that levels 8 and 30 have partly offscreen leftover structures.

The prototype's Brass Hogs level 30 is not a boss fight (it ended up as the 27th of final Brass Hogs).

As for the cutscenes: the two first ones are sketches (the second one even shows Hektor Porko escaping to the Mirror World, unlike the final version). The ending cutscene is blank, and can only be accessed by failing level 30.

A notable difference is that, in the prototype, even Eggsteroids and Danger Zone appear in the Mirror World episode selection. What follows is a description of how each episode and their levels were mirrored:

  • Chapters from Pig Bang to Beak Impact part 2 (minus Pig Dipper) had every mirror level designed like in the final version, except for boss levels. Many still have some differences, such as Hektor's placement and leftover blocks. Also, a bug would make Mirror World Beak Impact part 2 crash the game.
  • Pig Dipper had most levels unaltered from their base levels, apart from the usual flipped and darkened screen.
  • As mentioned above, Brass Hogs' mirror levels were even earlier versions of the base levels that the prototype has.
  • In the Mirror World, eggsteroid levels crash the game.
  • Danger Zone's mirror levels, named "MD-1" through "MD-30", are exactly the base levels, but flipped. They are all stable, and the button to switch between normal/mirror worlds appears in the Danger Zone level selection, unlike in Eggsteroids.

There are no missions asking for improving on Mirror World levels. Otherwise, the mirror dimension is similar to the final version.

The 2.1.0 prototype's mission system works, in general, in the same way as in the final version: three quest slots. A major difference is that, after completing or rejecting a mission, the next one comes after five minutes (instead of 16 hours or 30 minutes).

The prototype's missions have many glitches, such as never asking the player to improve on Mirror World levels. Also, the mission points do not reward the player with Space Eagles or powerups.

The player receives 100 Space Wingman powerups from first starting the game (he functions just like in the final release).

The powerups and Space Eagle tutorials from the shop, introduced in this update, differ a lot between the beta and final builds.

ABspace2-1-0prototype-PowerupTutorial

The shop's tutorials for Space Eagle and powerups are different.

In the prototype resources contain unused brass planets painted dark purple . They should be for the background. It was removed in the final version.

  • Perhaps this is an early design brass planets before Prototype

Sprites[]

Unused Bird Expressions[]

In the sprite sheets for the birds, there are several facial expressions that went unused. Some of them include cheering/happy faces, looking to the side, and Bomb's collision face.

Race UFO[]

In the files, there is a sprite for an icon of a racing UFO that would have been featured in an unused "Space Race" feature.[2] It's a normal UFO, but dark blue and with a black and white finish line checkerboard pattern around a round glass dome and a small flag with the same pattern sticking out of it.

Different Versions[]

Honey and Chocolate[]

There are sprites for dipping chocolate and honey that were meant to be used in the Waffle Walls. Syrup was used instead.

Top Hat[]

There are sprites for top hats for Hektor Porko, which were unused and replaced with a round top hat. There are purple and black versions.

Unused Accessories And Objects[]

There are sprites for a Snowman that isn't in the game, some dark purple sunglasses, a compact fiery asteroid, a crystal flower, a raspberry, some antennas, a tin foil hat, an ice star, and some blocks of snow. In another sheet, a diamond in a rock for Red Planet can be seen.

Beta Designs[]

Space Race[]

In the files for the version 2.0.0 of Angry Birds Space on PC, there are sprites for an unused Weekly Challenge/Time Attack mode known as "Space Race." It seems to be the Space equivalent of Mighty League or Pig Challenge, although it predates both of those.[3]

Just like what the Mighty League did, this seemingly would have had collectable stickers. It's also very likely this mode may have had different ways to play outside of Time Attack judging by some of these stickers.[4]

Music[]

There are several audio files that were not used in the game. They are called AB_space_level_menu, AB_space_stars_03_example, Planet Pursuit[5] (formerly known as bosstest), spaceAmbient01, spaceAmbient02 and World_1_Ambient. Interstellar Interlude[6] (formerly known as AB_space_level_menu) is a theme that could've been used as a theme for level selecting, hence the name of the file. bosstest could've been the original theme for the boss theme levels, or used as a placeholding theme. spaceAmbient01, spaceAmbient02 and World_1_Ambient are unused ambient themes that could've been originally planned to use for a scrapped or already existing planet. AB_space_stars_03_example is an audio that sounds very much like getting three stars on a level, but slightly different.

Planet Pursuit (bosstest)[]

spaceAmbient01[]

spaceAmbient02[]

Interstellar Interlude (AB_space_level_menu)[]

Sound Effects[]

Blackhole Bird had his sound effects left in the files of the final game before he was discovered, which were originally in speculation of who they belonged to.

File Name Description
Blackhole_shot Battle cry
Blackhole_in Ability sound (start)
Blackhole_loop Ability sound (looping)
Blackhole_out Ability sound (end)

There is also an unused sound for Firebomb called BombLaunch, which is his regular sound effect but with the voice in a lower pitch. His in-game launching file is called launchBomb.
