The Angry Birds Star Wars Cinematic Trailer is a promotional trailer released by Rovio and LucasFilm to promote the then-upcoming Angry Birds Star Wars game, releasing on YouTube on November 8, 2012, the same day that the game released.

Plot[]

(Most of the cinematic trailer is taking plot beats from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, but with some Angry Birds-inspired twists on the narrative.)

On the planet Tatooine, a landspeeder arrives at the spaceport called Mos Eisley, with the landspeeder parallel parking on a structure with a Stormtrooper Pig on top. The birds on the landspeeder, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker arrive inside, with the latter being fascinated inside of the place. After an accident that caused Luke to bump Ponda Baba into a pickle jar, He and Dr. Evazan act their revenge by squishing Luke, before Obi Wan saves him by slicing Ponda's pickle off as both of the pigs are left aghast. Obi Wan and Luke then meet with Han Solo and his partner Chewbacca to use their help to save Princess Leia for just a few bucks and a button. Han laughs at the wager, which angers Obi-Wan as he explodes, causing the wall behind them to be demolished. Surpised by the explosion, Han accepts the deal and steps out of the cantina. All four of them were spotted by Stormtrooper Pigs, as the group makes an escape in the Mighty Falcon via Slingshot and are joined by C-3PO and R2-D2 on the ship, as they are approaching the Death Star

Accuracy[]

Although altered to be kid-friendly and Angry Birds-influenced, there were several differences between the trailer and the film:

  • The scene when Obi-Wan uses the Jedi mind trick on the Sandtroopers is omitted in the trailer.
  • Similar to LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, Luke is not very good at driving the landspeeder in the trailer. In LEGO Star Wars, Luke accidentally runs over a Jawa, while in the trailer, Luke nearly knocks over a structure near Mos Eisley Cantina.
  • In the Cantina, Figrin Da'n and the Modal Nodes are playing melodicas in the trailer, but in the original film, they played saxophone-like instruments.
  • The trailer gave a reason Ponda Baba and Dr. Evazan dislike Luke: he accidentally shoved Ponda into a pickle jar. In the film, Ponda and Evazan dislike Luke for no apparent reason.
  • In the film, Obi-Wan Kenobi slices Ponda's arm. While in the Trailer, Obi-Wan slices the pickle in Ponda's mouth.
  • In Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Greedo, an alien with bug-like eyes tries to get Han Solo's money, and then Solo shoots first at Greedo. But in the Trailer, Greedo just walks past the place where Han Solo and Chewbacca are sitting and Solo gives him a skeptical look.
  • In the film, Obi-Wan Kenobi convinces Han Solo to give them a ride by prepaying them and promising more money afterward. In the trailer however, Kenobi gives Solo a bill, a coin, and a button to show that he is currently poor. Solo then mocks Kenobi by laughing at him. Kenobi responds by exploding in rage, forcing Solo to comply in fear.
  • In the film, Obi-Wan and Luke go to the Millennium Falcon separately from Han and Chewbacca. In the trailer, the four go together as a group.
  • In the film, Stormtroopers attack the Falcon as it leaves Mos Eisley. In the trailer, Stormtroopers attack just as Obi-Wan, Luke, Han, and Chewbacca leave Mos Eisley Cantina and follow them to the Falcon.
  • The scene when two Star Destroyers chase the Falcon is omitted in the trailer. Instead, they immediately arrive at the Death Star.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first Angry Birds short to have voice actors in them.
  • This is the third Angry Birds short executive produced by Nick Dorra. The first is the Back to School Short Animation, and the second is the Bad Piggies Cinematic Trailer.
  • Even though Chuck has a different ability in the game, he still appears to move quickly than the other birds.
    • Bomb also explodes in the trailer, but he doesn't have that ability in Angry Birds Star Wars, on the game, his fuse is only active.
  • While Luke is looking around the restaurant, Lazer Bird from Angry Birds Space can be seen.
  • If you look closely, in the scene when the birds first meet Han, before it fully closes in, you can see a sign that says: Solo Travel.
  • The slingshot they use to launch the Falcon is animated in CGI.
  • Both Tom Kenny and Antti LJ Pääkkönen voiced SpongeBob SquarePants from both the U.S. and Finnish dubs of the TV show of the same name.
  • In the trailer on the Angry Birds Toons menu, Red makes different sound effects.
  • The clip in which Obi-Wan Kenobi blows up is put in the Meet the Flock video for Angry Birds Toons, despite it not being animated in the same way as those episodes.
