Blossom River is the eleventh episode of Angry Birds Rio and the third in the Rio 2 section. It was introduced to the game with the 2.1.0 update released in April 2014. The chapter has marmosets as targets and features river-based aesthetics. As with most chapters in the Rio 2 section, this episode has 20 main levels, as well as six Bonus Levels;[note 1] the twentieth level features a fight against Nigel, making Blossom River the first chapter to have a boss since Market Mayhem.
Blossom River is set in the Amazon rainforest. The foreground prominently features a long river that runs across the scene. Some levels take place on lush islets, while others are set on boats that move horizontally as the screen scrolls. A few levels combine both settings. The background shows dense forestry, complemented by a semi-cloudy sky during daytime.
Gameplay[]
Like most episodes in the game, Blossom River uses marmosets as targets. As per the theme, the episode predominantly features water, which returns from High Dive. That chapter's lifebuoys also appear as bouncy gimmicks. However, Blossom River introduces no significant new gimmicks of its own.
The first Red should be launched to the thin wooden support beam at the bottom left of the middle structure, bringing it down along with the exposed marmoset at the far left. The second Red can then easily take down the rightmost building.
2
105,000
The player should fire Terence towards the rightmost building, potentially triggering a chain reaction that destroys the right half of the level. Then, the first Bubbles can be launched into the heart of the structure on the left to take it down.
3
85,000
Red should be fired to the chains at the top of the level to make the stone blocks they are holding fall onto the rafts below them. Then, Chuck can be launched to the thin tower at the right half to trigger the TNT box and knock out the remaining marmosets.
4
55,000
Bubbles should be launched into the heart of the bottom left structure to destroy it. The first Chuck should then be fired towards the TNT box at the top of the level, causing the stone bricks next to it to fall onto the rightmost marmosets.
5
88,000
It is recommended to loft Red in a specific upward angle to make him hit the vertical wooden beam at the rightmost structure, taking it down with the middle one. If any marmosets remain, they can be taken down with Matilda.
6
124,000
The first Red should be launched straight towards the horizontal wooden beam above the stone sphere in the middle of the level, which will cause the main structure to be knocked out alongside the exposed marmosets at the left. The second Red can then be fired towards the support cardboard boxes of the far right building to destroy it.
7
135,000
The Blue should be launched straight towards the small glass blocks at the bottom of the left structure, destroying most of the fortress and leaving open a space for Bubbles to go through and destroy what remains of the building.
8
75,000
The player should fire Matilda towards the bottom structures, dropping her Egg Bomb in such a way that allows her to reach the TNT box supporting the floating structure. A lucky shot should leave only a few marmosets on the left surviving, which can be knocked out with one Stella.
9
80,000
One Chuck should be fired into the water so he hits the TNT box on the right that is just over it, taking down the two exposed marmosets on the far right. Another Chuck should be launched to the main structure to detonate the TNT box there. Any remaining marmosets can be knocked out with a third Chuck.
10
123,000
It is recommended to launch Chuck towards the piece of wooden platform sticking out from the left building, causing it to collide and hit the exposed raft on the far left. Hal can then be used to strike at the TNT boxes on the far right to destroy the other structure.
11
100,000
Bomb should be launched towards the bottom right structure, knocking out both marmosets there and causing a chain reaction that will also destroy the structure at the top right. Then, Matilda should be aimed low, dropping her Egg Bomb in-between the two marmosets on the raft so she can strike at the top building.
12
90,000
Chuck should be fired straight towards the support wooden boxes at the bottom left of the left structure. Then, Hal can be launched - without enabling his ability - to strike at the exposed large marmoset in the middle and the wooden support beam of the building on the right.
13
148,000
The best strategy is to launch Bubbles into the heart of the top right building, triggering a chain reaction that will only leave the middle structure surviving. Chuck can then be aimed towards the rightmost remaining marmoset to take the other ones down as well.
14
97,000
Bomb should be launched in an upward angle to make him detonate at the middle of the structure on the right, destroying it. The resulting debris should take down all of the marmosets - if not, one Matilda should be enough to finish the level.
15
105,000
Chuck should be aimed towards the hollow wooden block at the bottom left of the rightmost tower to destroy it. Then, Matilda should be launched just over the left structure, dropping her Egg Bomb in-between it and the middle building, also causing her to destroy the foundation of the floating structure.
16
152,000
Matilda should be launched over the main structure so she can drop her Egg Bomb next to the rightmost TNT box, which will destroy all of the right half of the level and give Hal the opportunity to go through the bottom right of the remaining structure and knock out the remaining marmosets.
17
130,000
Bomb should be fired through the water so he comes out at the bottom of the rightmost structure; his detonation should take it down alongside the raft in the middle. Matilda can then drop her Egg Bomb just to the right of the building on the left.
18
68,000
Matilda should be used to take down the marmoset on the nearby raft. Then, Hal should be aimed towards the TNT box at the far right, causing stone blocks to strike at the middle structure. A lucky shot should take it and the building on the left down.
19
110,000
The player should launch Terence to the stone sphere in the middle of the level, taking most marmosets down. Then, Chuck should be lofted in an upward angle to strike at the wooden support beam of the middle top building to knock out the marmosets there and also detonate a TNT box at the bottom to clear the ones there.
Blossom River's collectible items are "Golden Anchors" of which there are ten scattered throughout the episode. Finding all of them unlocks the "Golden Anchor" Bonus Level. They can be found in the following levels:[3]
Level 1: The anchor lies in plain sight at the boat's bow, so Red can easily get it.
Level 3: The Golden Anchor is found at the far right. The level should be beaten as normal first, allowing the second Chuck to get it.
Level 6: The Golden Anchor is with some produce beneath the slingshot. The player should fling a Red towards the lifebuoy nearby. If angled right, he will grab the anchor.
Level 8: The anchor is at the bow of the player's boat, in front of the slingshot, and can be easily obtained by dropping one of Matilda's Egg Bombs on it.
Level 9: The Golden Anchor is found at the far right of the level, in a cave. To get it, Chuck should be launched in an upward angle, boosting at the right time to get it.
Level 10: The Golden Anchor is just over the water, to the right of the player's islet, and can be easily obtained using Hal.
Level 12: The anchor is hidden underwater, attached to the chain below the marmosets' boat. One Chuck can be used to get it.
Level 16: The Golden Anchor is stored in a crate on the platform at the top fight of the level. First, Matilda should be used to clear the path as normal. The player is provided with two Hals which they can fling backwards so they get to the anchor, although Chuck can also reach it if needed.
Level 18: The Golden Anchor is right below the slingshot, and can be easily obtained using Hal.
Level 19: The final anchor is in a small cave at the far right side of the level. The player should first launch Terence in an upward angle to make a path Chuck can go through by being flung in a similar angle, which will get him to the anchor.
As almost all of the lifebuoys in this level spin, getting the three stars lies on luck. The first Red should be launched in an upward angle to deploy the two small TNT boxes at the right half of the level. The player should then try to take out the marmosets using as few Reds as possible.
40 Star Bonus Level
169,000
The first Chuck should be aimed towards the opening at the top right of the level, which will lead him to activate a switch that will destroy the building on the left and, if timed correctly, the raft beneath it. If enough debris is cleared, Hal can destroy the wooden bars at the bottom and destroy the middle structure that they support. The second Chuck can then clear the remaining marmosets.
50 Star Bonus Level
166,000
The first Matilda should be flung into the cave at the far right and drop her Egg Bomb there, allowing her to activate a switch that will clear part of the top right of the level and expose a detonation cord. The second Matilda should then be aimed low, dropping her Egg Bomb onto the detonation cord in the middle to knock out the leftmost marmosets and also activating the other cord to take out the marmosets on the glider at the top right. The bottom part of the level should be clear for Bomb to go through and destroy the remaining structure.
As with the 30 Star Bonus Level, this level relies mostly on luck. The player should fire as few Matildas straight ahead as possible, dropping their Egg Bombs into the opening so they are launched by the spinning lifebuoys into the structures to destroy them.
Chuck should be flung into the water to come out at the far right and strike at a local detonation cord, clearing the nearby building. Then, the player should launch Hal in an upward angle to the left, enabling his ability as soon as possible so he enters a cave further to the right to destroy the top half of the left fortress. A gap in the middle should be left for Bomb to go through and explode to destroy what remains.
Golden Anchor Bonus Level
175,000
Hal should be launched downwards to the left, using his ability immediately after to strike at a hidden detonation cord in a cave that will destroy a building above. Then, Chuck can be flung in an upward angle to destroy the topmost vertical wooden beam, releasing a huge stone boulder, and also create a stone bridge for it to cross. If done correctly, the boulder will eventually take down all of the structures.
Notes[]
↑ 1.01.1The PC version only features 4 Bonus Levels, as two of them are unlocked with the Mighty Eagle, who is absent in that version.
