I know it's wrong to highlight this but lol, going to do it anyway. ;P
Felt I should give such an anticipated event good justice, especially since leaving so abruptly and it also being my 4th anniversary on the wiki 5 days ago.
So despite the very bad reviews on multiple critic websites, if you go on those websites you will find that the reviews are very split between very good and very bad - and the reason is not because it's a bad movie. It's because they judge it for being a movie based off of a game, nonetheless Angry Birds, and don't give actual, justifiable reasons as to why it was a bad movie. Having watched it, I have to say, I was very pleased with the result and that's just me not as an Angry Birds fan, as I had lost interest in the game itself before.
So I'll seperate this review into the actual review, and answered questions.
Review
I absolutely hate it when people judge this because of the fact that the game has died out. People need to learn to judge it as a film, just as how Cinema Sins doesn't sin movies because of the books, just because of how terrible the movie is.
The movie was totally captivating. Loved the story, loved the fact that it really was aimed for everybody, and most of all, I loved the fan service.
Many critics complained that the final battle was a small focus but I rather appreciated it not being about this whole battle with the pigs, as the final battle was still a rather large portion but left some space for the theme, which of course was that it's okay to be angry. It did this theme service by showing the complex, neglected life of Red- whom I felt sympathy for having felt the same way as him.
I feel like this movie shows just how nice video game movie adaptions can be - as Angry Birds itself did not have much of a story to go off of as other video game movies, but I felt as if that was better because while Video Games have their own stories to tell, the Angry Birds really needed their own movie to complexify their simple mobile adaption.
While staying somewhat faithful to the game through key elements, there was many nessecary adaptions, such as feet and arms for the characters and the ability for them to speak.
I think that just the fact that so many great actors wanted in on this project shows how great the movie actually is. It's really hard to make a review without spoiling anything, but i'll tell you: It's great. Each character has their own moment to shine while not taking away attention from the main trio.
Answered Questions
Are the Blues in the movie?
Yes, just not as much as you'd want them to be.
Is Leonard the same as the King Pig in the game series?
No, and that's a huge spoiler so I won't get into that.
Are the Stella characters involved?
Yes, but again, not as much as prefered. Mostly cameos, but still good fan service. May need to focus well if you want to catch them multiple times in the film, though.
