"Cheep-cheep. Candies-candies."
Bubbles, The World of Angry Birds Official Guide[2]

Bubbles,[2] originally known as the Globe Bird[note 1] or the Orange Bird,[7] is a character that appears in the Angry Birds series. He is a hatchling and occasionally a member of the Angry Birds, discovered by the Blues during Halloween. Bubbles only speaks in chirps and is usually uninvolved in the conflict between the birds and the pigs, instead spending his time looking for candies.

The character debuted in the Ham'o'ween chapter of Angry Birds Seasons, being the first of several characters introduced in that game, and frequently appears in Halloween specials. Despite his seemingly harmless appearance, Bubbles can inflate himself like a balloon at will to destroy pig structures. Bubbles often clashes with the pigs while hunting for candies, specially during Halloween, which more often than not drags him into conflict with all kinds of supernatural creatures.

Appearance[]

Bubbles is a round, limbless oriole, covered in orange feathers. He is the smallest of the Angry Birds. His crest has two long, black feathers with round ends that differ in length, and his tail has two small, similarly colored feathers with squarish ends. His beak is small but long, and arcs upward. Bubbles has dark brown feathers in his belly and around his eyes, as well as two large, maroon eyebrows.

Personality[]

ABSeasonsTrickorTweetShortScreenshot15

Bubbles over a huge pile of candy, from "Trick or Tweet".

Bubbles has a cheerful, yet unpredictable and scatterbrained demeanor.[2] He loves all sorts of candies, from chocolate to bubblegum, and hates it when he is not allowed to eat them (which usually involves Matilda's interventions).[2][3] Outside of that, not much makes him angry, tending to float through life without much concern instead, much to Red's frustration.[2] His desire for candy makes him willing to travel all around Piggy Island on his own just to endulge in his favorite treats.[3]

Bubbles is not actually part of the core Angry Birds, instead wandering in and out depending on the availability of candy. His presence is most notable during Halloween, when there is the most candy. When the treats disappear, so does Bubbles, until more candy is available.[3]

Perpetually cheerful, Bubbles always carries a big smile on his face, whether he is celebrating a victory or someone's birthday. However, this constant expression can seem odd when discussing serious matters, and it can be very easy to see his exaggerated joy as the crazed look of a peculiar bird.[3]

Bubbles' obsession with candy often drags him into conflict with the pigs, specially King Pig, who has also been shown to love sweets. He is also fearless, willing to fight hordes of pig monsters to get his favorite treats. His desire to candy can also have catastrophic results, with him even eating green, dangerous sweets despite the evident consequences.[8]

Game appearances[]

Angry Birds Seasons[]

Angry Birds Seasons Bubbles gameplay

Bubbles in gameplay, from Angry Birds Seasons.

Bubbles makes his first appearance in Angry Birds Seasons, being the first character to debut in that game. He first appears in the fourth level of Ham'o'ween and returns in all episodes since. His debut was also marked with an animation where his ability is showcased.

In gameplay, Bubbles can only be used in the levels where he appears, when it is his turn to be launched from the slingshot. Around a second after colliding with an obstacle, Bubbles will inflate several times his size, pushing nearby structures away. He can also inflate prematurely if the player taps the screen at any point after launching him. After a few seconds, Bubbles will deflate like a balloon until he pops, hitting any obstacles in his path with such strength that he will destroy them easily most of the time. Without his ability, Bubbles himself is of moderate strength and does best against wood and glass, but is very weak against stone. Upon beating the level, the player is given 10,000 bonus points for each Bubbles that was not used.

Angry Birds[]

Bubbles appeared in the original Angry Birds game in the Birdday Party theme. After playing his introduction level, Birdday Party 18–1, he will appear often as a playable character.

Bubbles is an extremely unique character in multiple ways. For one, he is the only character in the flock who has another bird in his introduction level. (Chuck was also in the level) He is also the largest character in the flock when inflated. He is also the first character of Red's flock to be introduced outside of the original game, and have his own introduction video. (Stella was the second of both of these things) Bubbles’ ability is the same as it is in Angry Birds Seasons. Bubbles inflates like a balloon, which would originally cause an extreme amount of damage; however, the code in Angry Birds was retooled in 2015, in version 5.1.0; in this update, Bubbles was weakened greatly, as he would usually fly out of the structure or clip through the floor

Angry Birds Rio[]

Bubbles in the Rio 2 episodes

At an indeterminate time, the Flock was captured as rare birds and taken to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where they fought with Blu, Jewel, and their friends against Nigel the cockatoo, Mauro, and his marmosets. Bubbles did not appear originally in Angry Birds Rio, but arrived much later after the others, so it is possible he was not kidnapped originally and made his way to Rio to help rescue The Flock.

In gameplay, Bubbles retains his ability to inflate into a giant size. This comes in handy when knocking piggy structures to the ground. Bubbles is still strong and still breaks everything pretty well.

Angry Birds Friends[]

Bubbles' technical first appearance into Angry Birds Friends was in Pig Tales Level 5, you can also find him in Angry Birds Friends on mobile, on the level 15 of the 6th floor of the Piggy Tower and on the tournaments on both devices.

He was introduced into the game in 2013, 2 years after his official debut, and in that time it was a new character to be introduced in the game. (Hal, though not a member of the core flock, still appeared since the release of the game)

He is also the only character to not have a design change.  Quite literally, all of the characters in the game but Bubbles received change from their Chrome to their Toons design (excluding Hal, who received a different design entirely) while Bubbles kept his original, classic design (Due to him not having a different design in Toons)

Very early on in the game when he was first introduced, Bubbles was named "Orange".

Bubbles is also available as a purchasable and customizable avatar for the player.

Gameplay[]

While there are no changes to Bubbles' size, ability, and basic principles, he does receive an extreme increase in strength. He can easily break through wood and at times will not lose speed or angle, as if it does not affect him. (though it does mean that his ability would be activated) He is also better at breaking through glass, especially if the glass shards are damaged. He again, however, will not be able to destroy the stone.

This holds especially true if the player chooses to purchase the Golden Slingshot or any of the other special slingshots. If they increase his strength in wood, he will notably be much stronger.

If you activate Bubbles' ability and he expands into the ground, he will not glitch and disappear, but will instead be stuck into the ground until he deflates. However, this will only happen if he is weighed down by blocks or indestructible materials.

Angry Birds Trilogy[]

In Angry Birds Trilogy, Bubbles appears as a playable character in Smugglers' Plane in the Angry Birds Rio portion with the Anger Management Pack unlocking him for use in both the Angry Birds Classic and Angry Birds Seasons portion in Birdday Party in the former and from Ham'o'ween to Piglantis in the latter.

In gameplay, Bubbles retains his ability to inflate into a giant size. This comes in handy when knocking piggy structures to the ground. Bubbles is still strong and still breaks everything pretty well.

Angry Birds Go![]

ANGRY BIRDS GO BUBBLES CGI

Bubbles is featured as a playable character in Angry Birds Go!, as the first character to be unlocked in the Air theme with his own personal kart, the Rapid Rider. (costing 1,500 gems) Like most characters within the game, he used to be unlockable through Boss Battles, and the player would have to beat him 3 times in the "Balloon Frenzy" track. In these battles, he would try to divert the player by sending boxes of TNT, coins, or boosts tied to balloons. As of v2.0, Boss Battles were removed and replaced with the Campaign Map. Once you get a star in the campaign level 3, race 5, you will unlock Bubbles and will be able to play as him.

Bubbles has one of the most powerful abilities in the game, and his ability is adapted from the other games he's appeared in.  When his ability is activated, his kart disappears and he inflates, rolling down the track. His speed and size increase greatly. His ability is very versatile. Players can use it to knock into opponents, forcing them out of the way. (and at times tossing them into the air) For players attempting to collect coins, Bubbles can collect entire groups of coins when inflated. This is also very useful when collecting fruit or ice cream. Bubbles is also not as light when inflated as he is in other games; in fact, being extremely heavy. Thus, the player will not have to worry about him floating off the ground, or losing control of him. He also expands much larger than he does in the previous Angry Birds games.

Angry Birds Blast![]

ABBlast Bubbles Transparency

Bubbles appears as one of the main birds in Angry Birds Blast!, and is the only bird in the game that isn't part of the core 5 members of the flock. Bubbles doesn't appear in any of the themes the levels are based on, such as Piglantis, or Pig City from Angry Birds 2.

Bubbles' Unique Quest:

"Find some hatchlings to join the masquerade!"

Each character has a unique task for the player, who then can complete them by playing and beating levels with Hatchlings shown on them. Bubbles' quest can earn the player a pink and a blue hatchling.

In the quest's menu, Bubbles wears his Halloween vampire costume.

In the Angry Birds Island China version

Bubbles, like all of the birds, is not playable. He has no abilities or special features. Instead, the player is given full control, and his/her objective is to free the birds encased in bubble boxes by popping groups of them in 2 or more. The main color of the bird is the same as the bubble, so of course, Bubbles's bubble blocks will be orange.

If the player breaks open blocks with Bubbles inside, he will fly off the screen and the player will obtain points.

Angry Birds 2[]

Bubbles2

When Angry Birds 2 first launched, it was stated by Rovio that Bubbles chose to "sit out" of the game, along with Hal and Stella. However, the orange bird was added to the game on March 26, 2019, as an extra bird.

His powers are the same as in most Angry Birds games (inflating), but he does not do his damaging deflation ability. Instead, he pops dealing almost no damage (ignites any TNT near his small blast radius), unless there are some blocks on top of him while he is inflated. In this case, he is a more overpowered Red and weaker version of Bomb, but will activate his power in 2 seconds if he gets hit by any screwdrivers Construction Pigs throw at him, any snowballs shot by Snow Pig, or hits normal surfaces.

Bubbles Reloaded

Bubbles is featured as a playable character in Angry Birds Reloaded. Unlike most of the bird characters, he uses his Toons design rather than his Friends design. Bubbles has the same exact ability as he does in the previous slingshot games he appears in. He does not face much change in this game. There are no changes to his actual ability, and the same logic applies.

Angry Birds: Stella and the Hunt for the Jade Egg[]

Alongside Stella, Bubbles acts as the book's secondary protagonist. When Stella decides to sneak into Pig City to retrieve Matilda's Jade Egg pendant, Bubbles excitedly asks to tag along. Stella warns him that the journey will be dangerous, which only seems to excite him more. Stella's decision to bring him along ends up being a good call, as his ability to inflate saves the duo when Chef Pig has them cornered. Bubbles is later invited to help Matilda guard The Eggs with Stella.

Angry Birds: Red And The Great Fling-Off[]

Bubbles cameos towards the last third of the book, being present during The Great Fling-Off.

Angry Birds: Stella and the Egg Tree[]

Bubbles cameos in a flashback to Red And The Great Fling-Off at the start of the book.

Angry Birds: The Attack of The Monster[]

Bubbles never appears in the actual story, but gets a biography regardless.

Powers and abilities[]

Bubbles' primary ability is to inflate like a balloon "the size of a five-bedroom house". While inflating, he expands rapidly, causing significant damage to any structures in his vicinity.[3] In addition, he has demonstrated remarkable resourcefulness and combat abilities, being able to fight hordes of monsters on his own and even using his inflation ability to protect himself from vampire bites.[7][9] Bubbles is also adept at driving all kinds of racing vehicles.

Cosmic Bubbles[]

Upon going through an alien wormhole, Bubbles transforms into Cosmic Bubbles. In this state, he wears an expandable suit and his inflation ability is enhanced to the point he can cause solar eclipses. However, he deflates faster due to the weightlessness of space.[10] This transformation first appeared in Angry Birds Space.

Relationships[]

Angry Birds[]

Bubbles is not part of the core Angry Birds[3] and thus does not interact with them often. He was discovered by the Blues during one Halloween[2] and has occasionally joined the flock in their fights against the pigs, but more often than not leaves to search for candies.[3] His perpetual smile can cause awkward moments in serious meetings,[3] and his demeanor often clashes with that of Matilda and Red, who respectively want him to eat vegetables and be more responsible. According to Stella, Bubbles idolizes Bomb and aspires to be like him when he grows up.[2]

King Pig[]

Bubbles often clashes with King Pig in his solo journeys due to their mutual love for candy. This rivalry causes them to fight over sweets whenever they are together, although Bubbles is usually the one that ends up having the upper hand.[8][11]

The image in which Bubbles and Silver are seen spoofing the marriage of the British prince and princess in 2018.

  • On some games, Bubbles' sprite sheet is separate from the other birds' sprites, which are all contained on one page.
  • Bubbles, Silver, and Hal are the only three birds that do not have a Star Wars counterpart.
  • Angry Birds Friends used to state Bubbles as "Orange". This has since been fixed in updates.
  • In Angry Birds 2, it is possible for Bubbles to "deflate" in a way. This can happen if he is inflated, and goes through a portal in any Bamboo Forest level. In this state, he does not make any sound upon vanishing.
    • Additionally, if he is inflated, his physics will go from rigid-body to soft-body. This is because Unity, the engine that the game uses, supports soft-body physics in addition to rigid-body physics (Box2D can only handle rigid-body physics).
  • The beta version of Bubbles uses Hal's sound effects.
  • Bubbles' sound effects were used in Angry Birds Fight! when the player matched four of Stella's icons.
  • Bubbles eventually became bigger than the Blues over the years.
  • Bubbles and Silver appear in a Angry Birds Blast offer image in a spoof of the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, with Bubbles portraying Prince Harry and Silver representing Megan Markle.
