Buddy is a hatchling and one of the main characters in Angry Birds Mystery Island. He's a member of the Egg-Splorers, and aids his friends in their attempts to get home.
Appearance
Buddy is an orange bird with tan belly feathers, blue feet and legs, and he wears big square glasses. His neck is also known to extend, revealing pink flesh underneath his feathers[6].
Personality
A natural born follower, Buddy goes out of his way to avoid conflict with others[6]. He's generally eager to please others, and has little backbone. He's quick to panic when in danger, real or perceived [2]. In conflict with his timid nature is his ability to be out on the front lines of any situation[3]. These attempts at bravery often result in him putting himself in unnecessary danger. Buddy is also woefully uninformed about topics he perceives himself an expert in, which further complicates the dangerous situations he puts himself in[1].

Go For Launch!
On the way to school, Buddy attempts to make small talk with Mia and Rosie, with the former being agitated over sleeping poorly. Mia asks for the group to take out their homework to compare answers, however their homework is blown into an off-limits scrap yard by the wind. Buddy points out that the trash yard is off limits, but still follows Mia in. When they see Hamylton caught in a trash bucket on a catapult, Buddy follows after Rosie to help him. All three birds end up on the catapult, which triggers, sending them flying into a purple cloud.
Buddy wakes Mia up, and the two find themselves in an unfamiliar location. Buddy mistakes the red sand for lava, startling him briefly. When the three birds begin concocting a plan to get off the island, Buddy's first idea is to make wings out of leaves and fly back home, which ends in him being forced to surf back after landing in the ocean. Buddy complains about being hungry, and Mia suggests building a catapult, which Buddy and Mia reluctantly go along with. After the intervention of the previously shunned Hamylton, the group are able to finish the catapult.
While the catapult launch fails, the group are still sure that they'll be able to escape the next day. Buddy's worries about the food situation are solved when he and Mia discover the cocoanuts to be drinkable, and they set up camp for the night. Buddy begins missing his family, but Mia reassures him that they'll be back home soon. The group is soon startled by a loud noise, and further frightened by Rosie mentioning an active volcano she saw. Despite this, Buddy is still able to fall asleep.
Gim(Mia) Shelter
When Mia takes charge of the group's effort to build a shelter, Buddy helplessly follows along. In spite of the unfair division of labor, Buddy still attempts to keep the peace. When Rosie snaps at Mia for her behavior, however, he sides with Rosie. He eventually rejoins Mia when she begins building by herself, and the group eventually reunites to finish the house.
The Egg-splorers
After finding Egg in the brush, the group decide to go into the jungle to find their family. Buddy takes charge of the expedition, claiming his experience as an Eagle Scout qualifies him for the trip. Unfortunately, Buddy vastly overestimates his abilities. The trail of leaves he lays down to track their progress gets blown away, he's almost eaten by a plant after mistakenly provoking it, and poisons himself by eating a wild berry. Buddy is able to redeem himself later by flinging the group out of the river when they're about to go over a waterfall.
The Worm Turns
When the group decide to build a raft, Buddy goes looking for red seaweed to bind it together after Hamylton eats their current supply. While out, he notices a small worm in the sand, and tries to eat it. This triggers a huge earthquake, and he soon realizes the "worm" was actually the tail of Wormzinger, who soon attacks the group, forcing them to launch the unfinished raft early. When the raft begins to sink, it becomes clear to the group that they can't simply leave the island.
Buddy, blaming himself for Wormzinger's attack, rushes back to distract Wormzinger while The Egg-splorers make it back to their shelter. His friends follow him, and Buddy eventually realizes that Wormzinger is being strangled by the tire around his neck. Hamylton is able to pull it off, and Wormzinger is befriended by Buddy before retreating into the sand.
Phone-y Business
when Mia decides the group should build an SOS message out of garbage for any oncoming planes to see, The Egg-splorers go out looking for litter. Buddy comes across a phone, which is miraculously fully charged and still receiving cell service. He attempts to search up how to escape a deserted island, but soon finds himself sucked into social media, resulting in him wasting time watching videos. Mia discovers him, and confiscates the phone. After a series of hand-offs, the group decide that they can't handle the phone, and film one last video to send for help.
Truffled Feathers
After a disagreement, Mia and Hamylton have a cooking competition. Buddy serves as both a host and a judge alongside Rosie. They eat and enjoy Mia's food, but fall head over heals for Hamylton's, causing him to win. Unfortunately, the truffle Hamylton used in his meal turns out to be highly addictive, causing Rosie and Buddy to enter a trance-like state, demanding more truffles. Mia and Hamylton are eventually able to free them by giving all the truffles in the area to the local Crab population.
On Island Time
When Mia gets stuck in a time loop, Buddy and the others are blissfully unaware. Buddy continues to spend each day relaxing, ignoring Mia's failed attempts to create bottled messages to send for help. This continues until the group notice Mia's worsening mental state, and take her to a flower field to cheer her up. This changes Mia's outlook on the island, breaking the time loop.
Chums in the Water
After the group is introduced to Finnie by Rosie, Buddy joins the group in using her to escape the island. Buddy and the others work to build a raft, attach it to Finnie's back, and set sail for Bird Island. The raft is obliterated in a storm, but the group are saved by Finnie and her mother, and make it back to shore.
Game appearances
Angry Birds Dream Blast
Buddy only appears as a non-playable character in Angry Birds Dream Blast and one of the guest stars in the Island Season special event, as a promotion of Angry Birds Mystery Island.
Relationships
Mia
Buddy is one of Mia's closest friends and confidants. Whenever Mia takes charge, Buddy has a path of least resistance attitude towards her. However, her brazen leadership style can take a toll on Buddy from time to time[6]. Likewise, Buddy's borderline incompetence also get's under Mia's skin occasionally[1].
Rosie
Buddy interacts with Rosie the least out of the group. Despite this, they're still good friends[2]. Rosie is often supportive of Buddy's ideas, in spite of their questionable nature.
Hamylton
Despite being friends with him for the shortest amount of time, the two are the closest in the group. Buddy and Hamylton often work together on group projects like gathering food and building[1]. Hamylton will follow whatever idea Buddy has blindly, often to the group's detriment.
Wormzinger
When Wormzinger initially attacked the group, Buddy blamed himself for trying to eat his tail. When Buddy noticed Wormzinger's neck was caught in a tire, he wanted to help the giant worm in spite of the danger he posed. Due to this act of kindness, Wormzinger is very friendly with Buddy, licking him like a dog[3].
