- "I've got places to go! Birds to meet! Let's see if we can't speed things up a little bit!"
- — Chuck, Angry Birds: Flight School #2
Chuck is a character that appears in the Angry Birds Movie series and its spin-offs. He is known for being the fastest resident of Bird Island, with a hyperactive personality to boot. His fast-paced lifestyle and quick thinking make him a formidable fighter, though his impulsive nature often lands him in trouble. Despite his occasional recklessness, Chuck is deeply loyal to his friends, particularly Red and Bomb, and is always ready to help them in times of need.
Concept and creation[]
The design of Classic Chuck (pictured) was modified by the Angry Birds Movie designers to make the character more easily recognizable by his speed.[5]
Chuck's design in The Angry Birds Movie was heavily modified from his original incarnation to be more influenced by his trademark super speed, making him immediately recognizable as the fastest bird in the film, although aspects like his long beak were retained. His triangular body was made to look more like a wedge and convey a sense of motion and aggressiveness. His head and tail feathers were designed to naturally drape back, ensuring that Chuck appears fast even when standing still.[5]
Appearance[]
Chuck is a yellow, anthropomorphic bird shaped somewhat like a banana, with a thin, tall body that ends in rounded tips. His crest consists of three long, black feathers that arc backwards, while his tail is made of five similar feathers. Chuck has a long beak, a light yellow belly, yellowish green eyes, and red eyebrows.
Personality[]
Chuck being penalized by the police due to his super speed, from The Angry Birds Movie.
Chuck is characterized by his boundless energy and super speed, which make him the fastest bird on Bird Island. His hyperactive and animated nature is central to his personality: everything Chuck does is performed at lightning speed, whether it is running, eating, sleeping, or even thinking. He is also characterized by a diverse range of hobbies and interests, which include running, dancing, singing, and fencing. In rare moments of calm, he turns to quieter pastimes like knitting, though his otherwise hasty behavior can often lead to volatility. His constant need to be on the move often makes it difficult for him to sit still or slow down, which can lead to frustration when he is forced to do so.[3] Chuck gets easily bored and dislikes getting speeding tickets, which led him to attend anger management classes after accumulating numerous traffic violations.[1][3]
Chuck is highly competitive and aggressive, often unintentionally invading personal spaces when he talks to others.[5] As a performer, Chuck thrives on attention and is happiest when showing off, even if his stunts sometimes end disastrously. His competitiveness drives him to take on any challenge, big or small.[4] Despite his restless demeanor however, Chuck is very outgoing and loyal. He values his friendships deeply, particularly with Red and Bomb, and strives to be a supportive friend. He has a genuine desire to be friends with everyone, even those who may not be looking for companionship.[3] However, his energetic approach sometimes clashes with others, such as Red, who was initially unappealed by Chuck's dizzying energy.[4]
Animated Appearances[]
The Angry Birds Movie[]
When he remembers he was a Hatchling, he reveals his mom would tell stories about Mighty Eagle and his Lake of Wisdom.
A few years later, he raced around Bird Island one day but a police officer pulled him over to give him a ticket, but in retaliation, Chuck sped into the Police Station and made a mess of the paperwork in the office building, then he took the officer's wallet and bought drinks for the whole bar. Chuck then arrived back to his previous position with the officer, but climbed up a tree close to them and "dripped ice cream" on the officer's head. This led Chuck to be sent to Anger Management classes.

When Willow and her friends are unable to keep up with customers on opening night, however, Chuck takes the opportunity to redeem himself. This time, he takes things slowly, and manages to get the cafe caught up. Willow is so impressed that she gives him a position on the delivery service.

"Clay Kaytis (film director): Everyone knows the yellow bird is the fast bird. Designing Chuck was all about speed. He's a wedge, basically. Those triangular shapes are all about a leading edge and a point. We liked his long beak, because we treated him like a character who doesn't have personal bounds. When he talks to you, he's going to get up in your face, and his beak will be right in your face. He doesn't know it, but he's getting too close. So, it was all about design elements that will show speed. Part of that was the long head and tail feathers that drape back naturally, so even standing still he looks like he's fast. Even down to the design of his individual feathers, they're little triangles. Everything about him is points and triangles, because he's aggressive and in your face."
