- "Sometimes they even call me Hard Head!"
- — Angry Birds: Mystery of the Green Bird
Hard Head is a Pig disguised as a Green Bird in order to infiltrate The Flock and steal The Eggs. He's the primary antagonist of Mystery of the Green Bird.
Appearance[]
Without his disguise, Hard Head is near identical to the average Minion Pig. He's a green pig with two ears, a lime-green snout, eyebrows, and a lack of arms or legs. The real magic happens when Hard Head pops on his disguise, being a greenish-blue watering can. The watering can has eyeholes, an unhinged lid that frequently pops off, and a spout that's intended to look like a beak, but appears more trunk-like if anything. The can also has leaves in the shape of feathers attached at several places in order to look more bird-like.
Personality[]
While not being a master of espionage by any means, Hard Head is a fairly competent double-agent, especially for Pig standards. He's not always paying the utmost attention, a trait that nearly gets him outed a couple of times, but he's able to smooth-talk and improvise his way out of most circumstances. While most of his success can be attributed to luck, his silver tongue and ability to read the room is able to lead on the birds, even being able to play the ever-vigilant Red for a fool for the duration of his mission.
Book Appearances[]
Angry Birds: Mystery of the Green Bird[]
Hard Head starts out as an average Minion Pig. His transformation into a phony fowl comes about when the discovery of green feathers on the island gives King Pig the idea to submit an illegitimate bird to The Flock to procure The Eggs. Hard Head was the unfortunate Minion tasked with bamboozling the birds. Armed with a watering can, Hard Head became fast friends with Matilda, and began earning the trust of The Flock. After a series of close calls, Hard Head's luck finally ran out when Chuck accidently burnt his disguise up when he fell asleep with his magnifying glass. Hard Head is forced to abort his disguise, and is swiftly delt with by Red. Hard Head ends the story contemplating how he'll have to tell King Pig the bad news once he returns.
Relationships[]
Piggy Kingdom[]
Like most every Minion Pig, Hard Head is highly loyal to the Piggy Monarchy. While reluctant to take position as a spy, his loyalty never waivers. When he's forced to communicate with the other birds, he struggles to speak negatively of The King.
Matilda[]
Due to already having the predisposition that there's another bird on the island, as well as her usual friendly attitude, Matilda is immediately accepting of Hard Head when he introduces himself. She gifts him a necklace and is even the originator of his name, commenting about how hard his head is when they meet. With that said, she doesn't seem particularly broken up when she finds out he was a pig the whole time.
Red[]
From the moment they meet, Red is constantly skeptical of Hard Head. Red keeps a close tab on him throughout the story, but Hard Head is able to keep Red at bay for most of the story, even getting close to earning his trust. The moment Hard Head's disguise fails, however, Red waists no time giving him the boot.
Legacy[]
While Hard Head's role in the franchise seems miniscule in the grand scheme of things, he actually laid the groundwork for future "Fake Bird" character plots. He was by no means the first of the "pig disguised as a bird" archetype (With Fake Chuck predating him by nine months and Piggy McCool by two), but he created a flock-infiltration trope of sorts that was followed by future fake birds, namely Game Play #2's Plumpy and Flight School #3's Cedric. All of their plotlines follow roughly the same beats, with the Pig in question disguising as a bird, gaining the trust of a member of the flock (Usually being Matilda), and ending the story with being outed through some indirect means.
