Hektor Porko is a pig who first appeared in Angry Birds Space. He returns in Angry Birds Reloaded as one of the main antagonists of Mirror Worlds. His real name is Harold Gruntly, but he went mad with his knowledge of Wormholes and adapted his Hektor Porko persona as time went on.

Appearance

Hektor Porko is a pig with a snout with asymmetrical nostrils, a big chin, dark brown moustache and small ears. He dons a purple hat and silver goggles with red lens that make him look more intimidating.

He pilots a UFO similar to The Claw, but equipped with sturdier armor plating, a metallic snout in the middle, a laser cannon, a glowing neon green cockpit, and only one claw, giving it a similar appearance to a Spacecraft Pig. He ends up piloting a larger ship with two thrusters on each side, a U-shaped body with green paintings, and a cockpit with a pig snout and a red visor-like window. It contains only two gates that lead to hangar bays with various junk, a hologram projector and escape pods.

This UFO is only seen in Hektor Porko Awakens, and he uses the same spaceship that Space King Pig/Leonard uses in Beak Impact in Angry Birds Space and Angry Birds Reloaded.

History

Hektor Porko was originally known as Harold Gruntly, hailing from an unnamed planet. Residing in a saloon on another unspecified planet, he made his profit using an Obsidian Organ to play songs in a saloon, and was well known around the saloon for this.^[1] One day, after one of his performances, an unidentified bird entered the bar and threw a pinefruit towards Harold. A barfight erupts in the confusion, resulting in a pig falling into Harold's Organ, which in reality is a piece of ancient alien technology. This creates a wormhole that sucks the Obsidian Organ and Harold in, taking him across several universes. The trip through the portal drives Harold mad, and he emerges from the other side transformed into Hektor Porko.^[2]

Now devoid of his passion for music, Hektor focuses his efforts on studying and attempting to harness portals. Through these studies, he eventually created the Mirror Worlds, a reality parallel to his own dimension. This discovery eventually reaches the ears of Space King Pig, who partners with Hektor in an attempt to defeat the Space Flock. While Space King Pig is defeated, Hektor is able to escape into the Mirror Worlds.

One time, Hektor would return to the regular universe to pursue Ice Bird, believing birds to have some sort of energy that attracts wormholes. While Ice Bird is able to escape Hektor after some banter, Hektor is able to trick Ice Bird into proving his hypothesis correct by telling him where a wormhole will supposedly appear.^[3]

An unspecified amount of time after the defeat of the Space Pigs and the destruction of Danger Zone, Leonard and Hektor were still drifting across space in their escape pod when they ran into a wormhole that led to Portal Clamity, a lush galaxy riddled with clams that connect portals to each other. With a group of remaining Space Pigs, they would try to rebuild had the Space Flock not noticed them thanks a wormhole that unfortunately showed their specific location.

When they were quelled for the umpteenth time, it wasn't long before recovering from the debris of their UFO and being grabbed by a whip into an unknown place by an unknown kidnapper. Hektor Porko's whereabouts remain a mystery.

Personality

Before becoming Hektor Porko, Harold Gruntly was a humble pig with a good singing voice. He accepted all sorts of income, no matter how weird, like shiny rocks and edible slime. He seemed to dislike pinefruit, which would ultimately become the cataclysm for his utter personality rewrite. He was also notably clingy to his Obsidian Organ, as he chased after it when it was taken by a wormhole.

After becoming what he is today, he only wants more power. His intelligence has increased thanks to the wormholes he passed through, at the cost of his sanity. As Hektor Porko, he is manipulative, tricky, greedy, albeit cowardly, and flaunts about his genius. When the situation is truly dire, however, he will always run away. His former identity has been kept a secret by himself and Ice Bird, though it is unknown how Ice Bird knows about Hektor Porko's original persona, while Hektor insists that Harold Gruntly is dead.

He is not above enlisting the help of others, and has reached out to Space King Pig/Leonard, to disastrous results. Above all else however, is how the wormholes are his driving force to his madness, as he has experimented with wormholes countless times, formulating a theory around them to make them appear without the help of an Eggsteroid.

Game appearances

Angry Birds Space

In Angry Birds Space, Hektor Porko is a pig appearing in the Mirror World levels. In gameplay, Hektor Porko is similar to other pigs will be popped with a hit by any bird. The Blues are too weak to pop him in one hit, requiring other structures to damage him or split up point-blank. Hektor Porko is commonly placed in difficult spots to make the Mirror World levels much more difficult, requiring structures to land far enough or an extra bird that can reach him.

Angry Birds Reloaded

Hektor Porko does not appear in Angry Birds Reloaded's remake of Brass Hogs as he is replaced by Leonard. However, he later reappears as the one of the main villains of the Mirror Worlds. He replaces the place of a pig from the original Danger Zone, pilots the final machine along with Leonard, and his role in the story of Space is expanded upon. He is also the boss of Portal Clamity alongside Leonard after escaping the Mirror Worlds.

As a regular enemy, he relatively stays the same in gameplay.

Media appearances

Hektor Porko appears in the Hektor Porko Awakens comic as the main focus, which dives deeper into his origins as to how he became the mad scientist he is, from the Obisdian Organ's disappearance to the wormholes.

He also appears in the trailer for Angry Birds 2's Space event, where he is angered by an alert that the Flock is in space without their transformations, after originally being excited about the prospect of an Eggsteroid in the vicinity. This also seems to connect with the Angry Birds Slingshot Space Stories series.

Trivia

Hektor Porko takes many mannerisms from cartoon villains in the past, down to his moustache; hence, he can be considered a "moustache-twirling" villain.
It is noteworthy that the animation of Hektor's snoring is missing, despite the sound being played. This can be seen if Porko is left alone in one of the mirror levels.
- In Utopia, his chewing animation was cut out, but the animation of the popcorn pieces is still present.
In the trailer for Angry Birds 2's Space event, Hektor Porko has his own unique voice, while other instances where he is voice acted, he uses Foreman Pig's voicelines.
