Jungle Escape is the second chapter of Angry Birds Rio and the "Rio" section of the game. Alongside its predecessor, Smugglers' Den, it was one of the only episodes in the game by the time of its release. It is set in a jungle in Brazil, with the Angry Birds braving through Nigel's horde of marmosets. This chapter introduces Matilda, and features a boss fight against Nigel, the very first in the Angry Birds franchise. As with most episodes in the game, Jungle Escape has 30 main levels and six Bonus Levels.

Description[]

The episode takes place in the outskirts of a jungle in the evening. The background features a thick forest partially obscuring distant mountains, and a dark blue and yellow sky.

Story[]

After the events of Smugglers' Den, the Flock escapes to a nearby jungle, accompanied by Blu and Jewel–two macaws chained together–as Nigel sends his marmoset lackeys after them. After overcoming various hordes of marmosets, the birds fight and drive Nigel out of the area. They then meet Rafael, who guides them to a beach were they can meet Luiz to separate the macaws, leading to Beach Volley.

Gameplay[]

Jungle Escape features marmosets as enemies, who would later appear in most subsequent episodes. The chapter also introduces jungle-themed gimmicks, including palmtrees and leaves. Exotic flowers are recurrent in most levels as well, granting 3,000 points upon destruction. Ocassionally, red mushrooms with white dots appear as bouncy gimmicks, reminiscent of the purple gum from Danger Above in the original Angry Birds.

Overview[]

Jungle Escape has 30 main levels.

Image Level 3-star score[1] Tips
1 80,000 The player needs to knock down the first structure with the first Red, then tilt the second building with the Blues rightwards so it also makes the third one collapse in a domino effect. In some occasions, this also destroys the final tower, although the second Red may also be used to knock it down.
2 67,000 The Blues should be aimed at the flower in the far left and the structure to its right. Chuck can then be launched towards the roof of the final tower, igniting the TNT next to it. This will send pebbles at the other two towers, knocking them down. The first Red may be used for cleanup if needed.
3 50,000 Red should destroy the middle plank of the leftmost palmtree, knocking down the first three marmosets. The final marmosets can be taken down with a direct shot from the Blues.
4 90,000 The first Chuck should be launched through the middle floor of the house, clearing most marmosets. The two other Chucks may be used to take down the remaining marmosets.
5 80,000 The player should launch Red at the leftmost marmoset, exposing glass foundation blocks that can be targeted by the first batch of Blues. This will destroy most of the structure and leave only the top right marmoset standing, which can be finished off with the second batch of Blues.
6 55,000 Matilda should drop her egg bomb to the right of the first tower, clearing most of the level. The Blues can then take down the rightmost marmoset, and Chuck can do the same with the well-protected marmoset in the center.
7 90,000 Chuck should detonate the tiny TNT box, and Matilda should drop her egg over the middle of the level, knocking the left half of the structure leftwards. Albeit inconsistent, this should clear most marmosets, and Red can sometimes be used to take down any that remain.
8 130,000 Red should target the second tower, aiming to knock it and the first one down. Matilda can then drop her egg to the left of the middle tower, clearing most of the remaining marmosets. If one survives, Chuck can finish him off.
9 85,000 The first batch of Blues should precisely strike the first tower slightly above or below the exposed hollow stone block. If done right, this structure will collapse to the left, exposing the bridge's support beam for Red to destroy. The second Blues (and the second Red if needed) can then hit the hollow glass block of the final tower, knocking it down in a similar fashion.
10 85,000 The first Red and Chuck should strike the bottom left foundation of the structure. If lucky, this will cause the entire level to collapse.
11 47,000 The first Red should detonate the TNT crate at the far right. The ideal outcome is the first tower being toppled and the two final marmosets being taken down, allowing the remaining to be struck by the second Red.
12 82,000 The first Red should strike the foundation of the first tower, destroying it completely, and the second Red should hit the lowest horizontal beam of the middle building, destroying it and the final tower.
13 94,000 Chuck should be launched in an upward angle to strike the bottom left thin wooden beam of the final tower, creating a domino effect that brings down all three structures. If the leftmost marmoset remains, Red can take him down.
14 80,000 Two Chucks should be lobbed in an upward angle, aiming for the core of the structure. The building will collapse soon after.
15 106,000 A semi-consistent way to beat this level is to drop Matilda's egg above the leftmost marmoset, sometimes allowing Chuck to hit a horizontal wooden beam to the right of the bottommost marmoset; destroying this will make the whole structure crumble and usually take out all marmosets.
16 55,000 The player should use the Blues to strike the pool of glass at the far left and the first marmoset. Chuck or Red can then strike the TNT box in the far right to finish the last two marmosets off, and take down the second and third marmosets by aiming at the palmtree in the middle.
17 97,000 The first Chuck should be launched through the flower in the far left and into the small structure next to it. Matilda can then drop her egg over the marmoset in the middle, clearing the main structure and leaving only the marmoset in the bottom right, which the second Chuck can hit.
18 67,000 Matilda should be lofted in an upward angle, dropping her egg to the right of the exposed crate, which will clear the right half of the level. Chuck can then be launched straight into the structure on the left, finishing the last three marmosets off.
19 92,000 The player should use the Blues to take down the two marmosets at the bottom of the level. Once that is done, they can easily clear the rest by launching a Chuck to the TNT in the far right and another to the first structure.
20 70,000 The first Chuck should destroy the house between the palmtrees, and the second Chuck should take down the second palmtree and the bridge. With a precise shot, Red can strike the bottom left wooden block at the far right tower, bringing it down as well.
21 77,000 Clearing most of the level requires a lucky shot from one of the Reds to the top half of the first tower above; this will knock down both towers, as well as the two marmosets hanging from below the platforms. The other Red can then strike the leftmost marmoset, and Chuck can clear the two at the far right.
22 85,000 The first Red should aim at the top of the middle tower, knocking down the right half of the structure. The left half can then be finished off by launching the second Red to the top of the first tower in a similar fashion.
23 115,000 Matilda should drop her egg in the gap between the first two towers, clearing them. Depending on the destruction, one or both Reds can be used to destroy the remaining towers.
24 56,000 The player should knock down the first towers with both Chucks, then launch Red to the top half of the third structure to knock and the fourth down in a domino effect.
25 73,000 Matilda should drop the egg to the right of the leftmost marmoset. Two Reds should then be launched in an upward angle, aiming for the TNT crate at the bottom.
26 66,000 Both Matildas should drop their respective eggs to the right of the leftmost marmoset and above or to the left of the middle marmoset. Chuck can then clear what remains of the structure.
27 58,000 The first Red should strike the bottom left crate in the level, taking down the first tower. If lucky, this should take down enough of the level for the second Red to finish the remaining marmosets off.
28 51,000 Both trios of Blues should be used to knock the first glass tower rightwards, taking out most of the level. If one marmoset remains, Chuck can knock him out.
29 95,000 Matilda should be launched in an upward angle, dropping her egg to the right of the leftmost structure to boost her to the top right, dropping stone blocks onto the building below.
30 70,000

Golden Banana locations[]

Angry Birds Rio Golden Banana collected

A Golden Banana upon collection.

As with other Rio episodes, Jungle Escape has 15 collectibles, called Golden Bananas, hidden across the episode. Collecting all of them unlocks the "Golden Banana" Bonus Level.

  1. Level 2: The first banana is in a crate at the far right, and can be only reached using Chuck.
  2. Level 3: This Golden Banana is above the level, inside a leaf. The only way to get to it is by launching Chuck in an upward angle and triggering his ability almost immediately after.
  3. Level 7: It is hidden behind a bush at the top right. Chuck can reach it by being flung in an upward angle and using his ability shortly after.
  4. Level 9: This banana is inside a palmtree close to the slingshot, so any bird and easily reach it.
  5. Level 12: The Golden Banana here is in a well-guarded crate in the final tower. It can be reached by knocking the middle tower down with the first Red and launching the three other Reds in upward angles to gradually get to it.
  6. Level 13: It is on a platform high above the level, which only Chuck can reach.
  7. Level 14: In this level, the banana is found at the far right. The player should clear the topmost part of the structure with one Chuck, allowing another to reach the "tree" at the right and drop its parts onto the banana.
  8. Level 15: The banana in this level is in a patch of grass at the far right, and can be collected with a Chuck.
  9. Level 17: This Golden Banana is at the top right of the level. A consistent way to reach it is by launching Matilda in an upward angle and dropping her egg to the left of the leftmost crate.
  10. Level 19: The Golden Banana in this level is below the slingshot, and can be reached by launching any bird backwards to make it roll off a ramp towards it.
  11. Level 20: The banana here is in a bush close to the slingshot. Any bird can grab it by being gently lobbed toward it.
  12. Level 23: This banana is in a bush behind the slingshot, and can be collected by any bird.
  13. Level 26: This Golden Banana is in a bush at the far right. It can be reached with a Chuck after using both Matildas to clear a path for him towards it.
  14. Level 29: The penultimate banana is in a crate at the top right. The player first has to use Matilda to clear the stone structure at the top, giving Chuck a clear shot towards the crate.
  15. Level 30: The final Golden Banana is in a bush to the left of the first mushroom. It can be collected by making Matilda drop an egg onto the bush.

Bonus Levels[]

As with other episodes, Jungle Escape initially had two Bonus Levels, acceeded through the Awards Room: one for beating the chapter, and another for finding all Golden Bananas. The Golden Banana Bonus Level noticeably features Bomb, predating his debut in the main Beach Volley levels.

With the 1.7.0 update in July 2013, the Awards Room was removed and Jungle Escape received four new Bonus Levels: three are unlocked by gathering 30, 50, and 70 stars in the levels respectively; and another can be accessed by attaining Total Destruction in seven levels.[2] The latter level is inaccessible in the PC and Mac versions due to the Mighty Eagle not being present there. These Bonus Levels retroactively introduce elements from later episodes, most noticeably sand blocks (from Beach Volley) and Hal (from Smugglers' Plane). Since the 2.4.0 update in the mobile version, the player can unlock Bonus Levels in exchange of a certain amount of Bird Coins.[3]

Image Level 3-star score[1] Tips
30 Star Bonus Level 95,000 Matilda should drop her egg to the left of the first structure, causing it to crumble. The first Chuck can then fly through the sand blocks to drop the stone down, and continue his trajectory towards the second building. The player can use the second Chuck to finish off the level if necessary.
50 Star Bonus Level 60,000 The player should launch Hal in a backward angle and redirect him through the very bottom of the first structure. Chuck can then take out the rightmost marmoset, and Red can push the stone boulder to the leftmost marmoset.
70 Star Bonus Level 95,000 The first Red should detonate the tiny TNT crate in such a way that it causes part of the structure to collapse. One Red can then take out the marmoset at the top right, and another can trigger the TNT box at the far right to finish off the building.
10 Feather Bonus Level 102,000 The first Bomb should target the first pillar of the structure on the right. Matilda can then be gently launched upwards and trigger her ability immediately after, sending her down a pathway on the far right obscured by a bush that detonates TNT crates, fully destroying that building. The player can then finish off the tower by launching the second Bomb straight towards it.
Golden Palmtree Bonus Level 129,000 Matilda should be aimed towards the structure in the far right without using her ability to destroy it. Chuck can then target the TNT crate to destroy the first building.
Golden Banana Bonus Level 101,000 A semi-consistent way to beat this level is to launch both Bombs at the leftmost building, splashing debris all over the level and taking out all of the marmosets in the left half. If the far right marmosets remain, they can be taken out by Matilda.
