The Lightning Birds are transformations which appear in the Angry Birds series. It is an alternate state of The Blues, achieved by passing through a wormhole.

Appearance

The Lightning Birds stay mostly the same as their original selves. They have orange masks with yellow lightning bolts on each side. In Space, they lost their tail feathers and orange eyelids. They were readded in Angry Birds Reloaded.

Game Appearances

Angry Birds Space

The Lightning Birds first appeared in Pig Bang 1-8 in Angry Birds Space, with the same ability that they had in the original game, albeit with electric particles. The Blues are also commonly placed after Ice Bird, due to their compatibility with destroying ice/glass.

Angry Birds Reloaded

The Lighting Birds made their debut in Pig Bang, in the same level they were introduced in.

Angry Birds Space Origins Short Movie

The Blues, along with the other birds, were looking after the Eggs, until Ice Bird came through a wormhole and crash landed in front of them. The Blues were alarmed of Ice Bird's behavior, but even more so when a mechanical claw came and grabbed not only the Eggsteroids, but the Eggs as well. Furious about this heist, The birds went through the wormhole, transforming The Blues into the Lightning Birds.

Book Appearances

Kaiken

The Lightning Birds appear as major characters in the Angry Birds Space themed Kaiken educational books. Their role is very similar to their normal counterparts' in the Classic-themed Kaiken books. The Lightning Birds travel around space, identifying things matching with the theme of the book.

Colors

The Lightning Birds make a brief appearance early on, when Ice Bird is attempting to find them, identifying them as his "friends with yellow wings". They later appear in a crowd shot with Ice Bird's other friends.

Numbers

Taking center stage, the Lightning Birds are the main protagonists of the book. They travel around the vacuum of space, counting objects and individuals along the way.

Powers and abilities

The Lightning Birds' ability is named the Triple Vaporizer, which is especially effective against brittle surfaces, and ones that Ice Bird has frozen over.

• Their masks are a reference to DC Comics' Flash (especially the iconic, Barry Allen incarnation).
  • Additionally, because there are 3 Lightning Birds, it could also be a reference to the 3 main Flashes in DC Comics: Jay Garrick, Wally West and Barry Allen
• Originally, each of the Blues was supposed to based on an individual superhero. One of them dressed up like Marvel Comic's Wolverine, while the other two were based on DC Comics' Batman and Robin.
• Their launch and collision noises would be reused in Angry Birds Star Wars for the Blue Squadron.
