R2-D2 (also known as R2-EGG2 or The Egg[1][2][3]), is a playable character in Angry Birds Star Wars and Angry Birds Star Wars II. Their ability is to electrify pigs with a beam similar to R2-D2's lightning beam seen in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. When getting up to the 8th Bonus level, R2 will receive an upgrade which makes is zapper more effective.
According to the Angry Birds Star Wars Character Encyclopedia, they are a devoted droid servant to the Jedi Birds and can act shell shocked sometimes, but others know that they will never let them down. They can talk to computers in a special language that others cannot understand. They look harmless but hides The Egg, which contains the force. Both the Jedi and Sith are looking for it, and Yoda hid it inside R2-EGG2 to keep it safe. R2-EGG2 can record messages, which is used by Princess Stella to send a distress call to Obi-Wan.
History[]
Angry Birds Star Wars series[]
Past[]
Some time in the past, Yoda Bird kept The Egg inside of R2-D2 to prevent the Pork Side from stealing it.[1][2][3]
Angry Birds Star Wars II[]
At some point during the events of Angry Birds Star Wars II, Anakin Skywalker learned of The Egg and its powers. Darth Sidious took advantage of this to lure the bird into joining the Pork Side.[1]
Trivia[]
- Based on its role in the first game and how R2-D2 was sent to carry it, The Egg could be a stand-in for the Death Star plans from A New Hope.
- The Egg's role in Angry Birds Star Wars II is similar to how, in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Anakin Skywalker had visions of his wife dying in childbirth, which resulted in him falling to the Dark Side. These elements were omitted in the adaptation of the film's story in Angry Birds Star Wars II.
