Rocket Rumble is the ninth episode of Angry Birds Rio and the first episode of the "Rio 2" section of the game. It was added in December 2013. It introduces rockets as gimmicks, marks the first appearance of Stella in the game, and features the Rocket Bird, a special bird only used in Bonus Levels.
Description[]
The episode takes place in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the evening. The sky is light blue with a pink gradient, with Rio and some hills seen in the background, obscured by fog. The foreground consists of cyan-colored grass over gray rocks. The vegetation consists of grass patches and palm trees.
At its introduction, Rocket Rumble employed the style of previous episodes. The background was different too, with the sky being purple instead of blue and the hills being rounder. When High Dive released in February 2014, the visuals of Rocket Rumble were overhauled to more closely resemble the style of Angry Birds Toons.[3]
Gameplay[]
Rocket Rumble features marmosets as enemies, like most episodes in the game, and introduces three types of firework gimmicks: the first is a firework rocket that fires off in the direction it is facing; the second rotates counterclockwise; and the third destroys objects in the direction it faces with a short range. All three of these can be triggered either by hitting them or a red cord connected to them. Once activated, the fireworks will be active for a few seconds before exploding, granting the player 3,000 points. The episode also features bouncy mushrooms with a cyan glow.
Overview[]
Rocket Rumble has 20 main levels.
Image | Level | 3-star score[4] | Tips |
---|---|---|---|
![]() |
1 | 46,000 | All the player has to do here is launch one Red to the first two fuses. Their respective rockets will destroy the level. |
![]() |
2 | 137,000 | The first Chuck has to be launched to the bottom left of the main structure, allowing the Blues access to the switch at the core, which activates a rocket that plows through the building. |
![]() |
3 | 77,000 | Chuck should be launched through the path at the far right, sending him rolling down to the bottom and triggering a rocket that will destroy the structure at the bottom. Red can then be launched to the right side of the other building, destroying it as well. |
![]() |
4 | 146,000 | The first Stella should be launched over everything and to the bottom right part of the tower at the top right. Her bubbles will cause it to topple and destroy the middle part of the level. The second Stella can then be aimed towards the structure in the far left to make it topple as well, causing further destruction. |
![]() |
5 | 95,000 | One Stella should lift the two cardboard TNT boxes in the middle so they detonate at the bottom of the two structures above. Another Stella should be lobbed in an upward angle so she sends the stone boulder in the top towards the far right building, destroying it and triggering the two fireworks rockets there. |
![]() |
6 | 114,000 | The Blues should be launched to the middle of the level in such a way that, when split, one of them strikes the glass block supporting the structure at the top and another triggers the rocket at the bottom right. Chuck can then hit the switch at the top to take out the remaining marmosets. |
![]() |
7 | 109,000 | The first Matilda should be launched in an upward angle to fall into the gap between the second and third structures. There, she should drop her bomb to topple both of these buildings, allowing the second Matilda to bombard the fuse at the far right to destroy the first structure. |
![]() |
8 | 107,000 | The first Chuck should be aimed at the hanging platform at the top left, striking the hanging marmoset to its right as well. Matilda can then bombard the second rocket at the bottom and destroy the wooden support beam at the top right. This strategy is very inconsistent but often surpasses the 3-star score threshold if all marmosets are taken out. |
![]() |
9 | 118,000 | Stella should lift herself to the fuse hanging from the roof in the middle, triggering two fireworks that will destroy the first two buildings. Chuck should then strike the support beams of the third structure to topple it as well. |
![]() |
10 | 115,000 | The Blues should strike the bottom left glass blocks of the first tower. Eventually it will crumble and trigger the two firework rockets in the far left. Stella can then lift the two fireworks in the middle towards the right structure, destroying it as well. |
![]() |
11 | 117,000 | Chuck should fly through the left and middle wooden beams of the structure above. The remaining blocks will plummet to the bottom, creating a gap for Matilda to detonate a cord to the right of the first structure, activating a rocket that will destroy the building to the right. |
![]() |
12 | 140,000 | One Bomb should be launched to the far right and light the fuse activating a firework, destroying the structure in the bottom left. Another Bomb should be lofted in an upward angle (aided by the wall above) to land in the middle of the main building, destroying it upon exploding. |
![]() |
13 | 158,000 | The Blues should be aimed towards the glass blocks in the middle structure, destroying it and allowing Bomb to fly down the gap in the center to ignite the two cords at the bottom. |
![]() |
14 | 170,000 | The first Matilda should bombard the gap between the four crates in the middle, causing her to trigger a chain reaction that takes out virtually all of the right half and granting the first Chuck a straight shot at the switch, detonating the rocket at the bottom that destroys the building in the middle. The second Matilda can then drop her egg over the glowing mushrooms in the middle at the left, in such a way that she takes out the structure above and the eggs triggers the rocket further to the right. Sometimes the marmoset that spawns at the bottom will land next to the slingshot, although the second Chuck may be used to take him out as long as the third Matilda grants enough points for three stars. |
![]() |
15 | 105,000 | One Matilda should be launched in an upward angle to drop her bomb to the right of the top left structure, sending her flying towards the cord triggering two rockets. The other Matilda can be launched to bombard the gap between the final two buildings at the bottom, allowing her to also hit the support beam of the structure above. |
![]() |
16 | 160,000 | Terence should be lofted straight to the first tower, completely destroying it. Matilda should then be launched in a low angle so she bombards the switch in the middle, destroying the building above, and strikes the second tower. |
![]() |
17 | 129,000 | This level requires two precise shots: the first Red should be launched to the first fuse to destroy the first building, granting the second Red enough room to light the second cord to take down the other structure. |
![]() |
18 | 150,000 | Bomb should be launched to hit the fuse in the far right, destroying the floating structure and continuing his trajectory to explode at the core of the rightmost building. Terence can then be launched straight at the remaining building. |
![]() |
19 | 138,000 | The first Chuck should be launched to the very top; in his trajectory, he will drop stone blocks to the structures below and trigger a switch at the bottom to destroy the leftmost building. Matilda should then be lobbed in a similar angle to drop her egg over the mushrooms at the bottom right; it will strike the marmoset at the very bottom and allow her to trigger the firework above. All that is left afterward is for Chuck to hit the support beams in the middle. |
![]() |
20 | 158,000 | Stella should trigger the cord in the middle and lift the firework connected to it, causing it to destroy the structure at the top. Red should then be launched backwards to the glowing mushrooms, making him activate the firework above which will itself trigger a fireworks show, finishing the episode. |
Golden Rocket locations[]

A Golden Rocket upon being collected.
As with other Rio 2 episodes, Rocket Rumble has ten collectibles, called Golden Rockets, hidden across the episode. Unlike its counterparts, the Golden Rockets act similarly to the normal firework rocket gimmicks, meaning they can be obtained by lighting the fuse attached to them. Once triggered, they fire off and make a special sound upon exploding. Collecting all of them unlocks the "Golden Rocket" Bonus Level.
- Level 2: The Golden Rocket here is attacked to the switch, so it is obtained by normally beating the level.
- Level 3: This rocket is found at the very top, and can be obtained with Chuck.
- Level 4: The player has to clear the level as normal and fling one Stella below the rightmost tower, which is where the Golden Rocket's cord is found.
- Level 7: The Golden Rocket here sits close to the slingshot. Simply bombarding it with Matilda is enough to obtain it.
- Level 8: The rocket in this level sits in a crevice at the far right, obtainable using a Chuck.
- Level 9: This level's rocket is found at the top, and can be easily reached with Chuck.
- Level 10: This rocket sits atop the top right platform, with its fuse hanging underneath. It can be triggered by clearing space for a Stella to fly over the main structures and lift herself upwards with her bubbles.
- Level 12: This Golden Rocket is found at the far right. First, the player should clear the level normally and then fly a Bomb through the cleared space and towards the fuse.
- Level 14: An island at the top right quadrant of the level contains the Golden Rocket, which can be most easily reached by launching a Chuck in an upward angle.
- Level 17: The final Golden Rocket is buried near the slingshot, with its fuse sticking out from the very left of the screen. It can be reached by placing the first Terence to the left of the slingshot and pushing him further to the left with the second Terence.
Bonus Levels[]
As with other Rio 2 episodes, Rocket Rumble has six Bonus Levels: three are unlocked by collecting a certain number of stars in the episode; two, unavailable in the PC version, can be acceeded by achieving Total Destruction status in a certain number of levels in this episode; and another can be unlocked by finding all ten Golden Rockets. Since the 2.5.0 update in the mobile version, the player can unlock Bonus Levels in exchange of a certain amount of Bird Coins.
All six Rocket Rumble Bonus Levels feature the Rocket Bird, a special variant of Chuck attached to a firework rocket, which activates with the player's input or when Chuck collides with an obstacle.

---|---|---|---|
![]() |
30 Star Bonus Level | 100,000 | One Rocket Bird should be launched to the tower at the top, causing it to topple and taking out at least the rightmost marmoset. The second Rocket Bird can then be used to clear the remainder of the level. |
![]() |
40 Star Bonus Level | 144,000 | The first Rocket Bird should be launched in an upward angle, towards the middle of the level, and redirected upwards, resulting a chain reaction that will clear the right half. The structure on the left can be destroyed by launching the second Rocket Bird in a similar angle and redirecting him to the left once he approaches the ground. |
![]() |
50 Star Bonus Level | 129,000 | The player should clear the leftmost structure with Terence. With a precise shot, a Rocket Bird can then travel through the opening and detonate all of the firework rockets, destroying the other towers. |
![]() |
7 Feather Bonus Level | 187,000 | One Rocket Bird should be flown in an upward angle and redirected downwards when he flies over the slope next to the leftmost structure, taking it down. Another bird should be launched towards the middle and sent to the right once he approaches the ground, clearing the right half of the level. |
![]() |
15 Feather Bonus Level | 180,000 | The first Rocket Bird should be sent through the ramp at the left side, triggering the local rocket and clearing the left half of the level. The second Rocket Bird can fly over everything to trigger the switch at the far right, causing a chain reaction that will take out the remaining marmosets. |
![]() |
Golden Rocket Bonus Level | 164,000 | A Rocket Bird should be launched through the main structure and towards the tower in the far right, toppling it and triggering the fireworks below, which will destroy the building above as well. The remaining marmosets can be cleared with Bomb. |
