- "And this is Terence!"
"Grrrr..."
"...More like 'Terrifying'." - — Matilda, Terence and Red, The Angry Birds Movie
Terence is a character that appears in the Angry Birds Movie series and its spin-offs. He is an inhabitant of Bird Island, known for his imposing and silent demeanor. Terence has a fearsome reputation due to being the largest bird on Bird Island. He communicates almost exclusively using groans and growls, rarely uttering a word. Following an unspecified incident, Terence was forced to attend Matilda's anger management classes, harboring a deep affection for his teacher. After saving Matilda's life on Piggy Island, he is now married to her and has four daughters with her.
Appearance[]
Terence is a large, anthropomorphic bird that vaguely resembles Red. He is mostly covered in crimson feathers, with dark red spots unevenly arranged through his body and peach-colored feathers on his belly. He has a large, oval-shaped torso, two short wings, and two short, yellow legs. His head is very large, shaped like a horizontal oval, and connected to the torso without a neck. He has two long crest feathers with black ends, while his tail is made up of several long, black feathers with pointed tips.
Personality[]
As the most imposing bird on Bird Island, Terence is known for his brooding silence and intimidating demeanor, creating a stark contrast with the generally cheerful residents.[3] He communicates primarily through growls and grunts and rarely speaks.[4] His unsettling presence, combined with a mysterious past, gives him an intimidating reputation among the island's residents, sparking speculation around his true motives:[5] some think he has ulterior motivations,[5] others believe that he is a "big softie",[4] and others consider him merely misunderstood.[5] His permanent enrollment in Matilda's anger management class in particular is tied to an unspecified, classified incident which he does not regret.[2][4]
Despite his beast-like exterior and gruff behavior, Terence is more than just a menacing figure. He occasionally exhibits a sense of humor, using his own deadpan mannerisms as a source of comedy: for example, when the pigs first arrived on Bird Island, Terence scared Ross away when the latter tried to hug him. However, he later put on a cowboy hat after scaring a pig during their cowboy show. At the same time, he was also shown to be easily excited, laughing and flapping his wings during the pigs' demonstration of their inventions.[2]

In Angry Birds Action!, Terence is a playable character. He is unlocked in the thirtieeth level of Bird Island, or the eighteenth one on Pig Island. In gameplay, he can run towards a direction by pointing him at a target and shooting. Terence would then hit and bounce off of targets until he runs out of speed. He can only do this three times, and he will disappear afterwards. His strength makes him super destructive and effective.

"Francesca Natale (character art director): Terence was interesting to develop because he looks like the same 'species' as Red. He looks really big in the game, so for the movie he became the biggest bird in the village. He doesn't say a word and cannot really move much so just his presence and stillness had to communicate something and look entertaining. The goal was to make him super mean and a bit creepy in a funny way. Quite a contrast with the happy villagers."

In fact, Terence is a bird of pretty much NO words! He mostly growls and groans and sighs. He's the biggest, tallest bird on the island and he also might be the scariest bird on the island as well. He's a permanent member of Matilda's anger-management class due to an unspecified classified incident. His art therapy samples show signs of a true artistic calling. But there's no indication of Terence answering that call, since he doesn't speak! Underneath all that bulk and brawn, many suspect that Terence is really just a big softie."
