The Angry Birds Movie 2 (or simply Angry Birds 2) is an upcoming 2019 computer-animated action comedy film based on the Angry Birds franchise by Rovio Entertainment Corporation, produced by Columbia Pictures, Rovio Animation, and Sony Pictures Animation, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is the sequel to first film: The Angry Birds Movie - which was released in 2016, the film is directed by Thurop Van Orman, from a screenplay by Peter Ackerman. It is currently scheduled for release on August 14, 2019. The film is the second film in the film series.

Synopsis

The flightless birds live their lives in peace in Bird Island, after the  war for rescue of their eggs and reconstruction of their village. However, Leonard (King Mudbeard), after the destruction of his city and castle on the war, puts his revenge in practice with new assistents, leading to another war involving the birds and pigs. 

However, a purple bird named Zeta , tired of living on a cold island , starts to put the lives of both the birds and pigs in risk, making they put their differences aside and embark on a new adventure in order to end this plan and save not only their lives, but the whole world.

Production

On August 25th, 2016, Rovio's CEO Kati Levoranta announced that they had began planning for the sequel for the Angry Birds Movie. Not much other information was given, but it can be safely assumed that it would take a long period of time for it to develop, since Rovio had taken 4 years with the initial pilot. On April 26th, 2017, it was announced that the sequel would be on September 20, 2019. The film will be directed by Thurop Van Orman and co-directed by John Rice. It will be produced by John Cohen and Peter Ackerman will write the screenplay.

Marketing and release

• The Movie releases in August 14 on Digital HD and in Select Theaters.
  • DVD and Blu-Ray releases in November 2019.

Very little information about the film's plot and characters were revealed until Sony eventually released a teaser trailer and poster for it on February 21, 2019.

The film is scheduled to be released on August 14, 2019, to mark the 10th anniversary of the release of the original Angry Birds game. The film was originally scheduled to be released on September 20, 2019, but was moved ahead twice to September 6, 2019, and then August 16, 2019.

Trivia

• Unlike the first film, the second film will be produced by Sony Pictures Animation.
• This is the first time that there are different released Official Trailers with different scenes in each country.
  • For example, Angry Birds O Filme 2 (Brazil) is shorter but has different scenes and others countries have scenes that would later be in The Angry Birds Movie 2 International Trailer
• Chuck wakes up fast and has a pet cow which he gets milk from her.
