The Big Setup

The Big Setup is the fourth episode of the original Angry Birds. It consists of three parts, called "themes", with 15 levels each, which were released separately in July, August and September 2010 respectively. The Big Setup is unique in that it only features two birds, the newcomer Terence and Hal, with the other birds having been kidnapped by the pigs. All levels in this chapter are remade versions of previous levels in the game as if they were under construction. The Big Setup was followed by Ham 'Em High in December 2010.

Storyline[]

The opening cutscene of The Big Setup, with the pigs having stolen the eggs and kidnapped the Angry Birds as Terence watches nearby, from the original Angry Birds.

One day, at the Cobalt Plateaus, the pigs manage to capture the Angry Birds and steal their defenseless eggs. To celebrate, they start to rebuild some of their favorite fortresses all over Piggy Island.[3] However, their plans are soon countered by Terence, who makes his way through the island to demolish their structures. During his adventure, Terence frees a caged Hal who joins him in his quest. Eventually, the duo defeat King Pig and retrieves the eggs as the monarch watches from nearby.

Trivia[]

  • Before the episode colors were removed in an update, the representative color they used in The Big Setup is yellow.
  • This is the first episode cutscene with no symbols above any of the Birds' heads.
  • This is one of the two cutscenes with Hal and Terence; they were also seen in Trick or Treat, before its cutscene was removed in the Piglantis update.
  • The Pigs now wear accessories on their heads. In Angry Birds Seasons, pigs wear hard hats in Seasons Greedings.
  • This episode's levels are the same in Poached Eggs, Mighty Hoax, and Danger Above, only rearranged and being fixed.
  • This is the first and only episode to not make any members of the original Flock playable, considering they were kidnapped in the beginning.
  • This is the only episode to not have its own background. Instead, it's the backgrounds of Poached Eggs, Mighty Hoax and Danger Above just with reconstruction sites added.
  • The Big Setup is the second episode where Hal could be found captive and unplayable in one of the levels, with the first one being Danger Above.
  • This episode is the first to have repeated levels. Pigs can be seen reconstructing levels from the game, For example, Theme 9-1 is a reconstruction of Theme 1-1 from Poached Eggs.
  • A board game, On Thin Ice, is based on this episode.
  • This is the only episode in the original cutscenes that Chuck has his final design in the first cutscene.
  • The original level selection screen used Terence's prototype design before it was changed.
  • World 8 (clouds) is the only world prior to this episode that does not appear in any levels.
