- "The juxtaposition between cute and dangerous is what makes the Blues so appealing."
- — Pete Oswald, production designer of The Angry Birds Movie[1]
Jim, Jay, and Jake, collectively known as the Blues,[2] are characters that appear in the Angry Birds Movie series and its spin-offs, as well as the main protagonists of the Angry Birds Blues television series. They are three twins with virtually identical appearance and personalities, renewed for their resourcefulness and creativity. The sons of Greg and Olive Blue, the trio hatched from the same egg at the conclusion of The Angry Birds Movie, after Red saved their egg from Leonard and the pigs.
Appearance[]
The Blues are small, anthropomorphic hatchlings with squarish bodies covered in blue feathers, hence their name. They have small wings and legs, and share nearly identical features, including two long feathers forming a crest, a tail composed of three black feathers with squarish ends, and orange rings around their eyes. The three can be distinguished by their eye colors: Jay has blue eyes, Jake has green eyes, and Jim has brown eyes.[note 2] Additionally, in The Angry Birds Movie 2, Jay has a little floof on his head unlike his brothers.
Personality[]
The Blues are known for their fun-loving and mischievous spirit, embodying a combination of "cute" and "dangerous".[1] Their virtually identical personalities make them a knit-tight trio, rarely seen apart.[2] They often find themselves in chaotic situations, their curiosity and creativity frequently leading them to ambitious building and crafting projects, which they enthusiastically pursue despite failing catastrophically as often as they succeed.[3] Despite their age, they are surprisingly resourceful and determined, being always up to the task at hand, whether it involves constructing elaborate contraptions or rebuilding structures after accidents.[4][5] Despite their courageous demeanor, however, the Blues are not immune to fear, particularly when venturing into the unknown; their adventurous spirit sometimes leads them into unexpected situations, such as camping alone in the dark, where their imagination can get the better of them.[6]
The Blues are also very competitive, often striving to outdo each other in various activities, from building the perfect paper airplane to pranking one another with increasingly dangerous traps.[7][5] However, this often results in friction between them, especially when personal belongings are involved, leading to playful yet intense rivalries.[8] The Blues are also known for their love of food, especially strawberries, which can occasionally lead to disagreements among the trio.[9] Despite these quarrels, they always find a way to reconcile after their antics.
Animated Appearances[]
The Angry Birds Movie[]
Their egg is first seen with their parents, Olive and Greg Blue, while Red walked back home from the Infinity Acceptance Center. The egg makes its next appearance during the film's final act, where it pops out of the basket that Mighty Eagle was trying to save. Red drops back into the Pig Palace to recover it. Red and Leonard fight for the egg, falling into a secret room filled with dynamite and TNT. Leonard got a candle to cook the egg but was stopped by Red, who made Leonard drop the candle, setting off the dynamite and exploding the entirety of Pig City. The birds had assumed that Red had died with it, but he managed to survive, along with the egg, that he had accidentally broken. The Blues hatched, and Red gave them to their parents.
When Bird Village was rebuilt, the Blues, along with many other hatchlings whose eggs had been stolen, sang a special song for Red based on the Mighty Eagle song. The Blues also appear in the mid-credits scene for the film, where they launch themselves toward the sea, huddle up together as lightning crackles around their bodies, and use their splitting ability for the first time. Book Appearances[]
Red's Got The Blues[]
In the story, The Blues beg Red to let them hang out with him until he eventually relents. It's around this time that Judge Peckinpah arrived, and begins talking down to Red about both his position and the upcoming ceremony for the Judge's new statue. The Blues take a disliking to Peckinpah, and sneak a peppershaker into his coat.
Later that day, Cyrus is unable to control himself, and sneezes so hard that he knocks the Judge down mid-ceremony. Luckily for The Blues, Red is the first target of the Judge's ire once he finds the shaker, and they try to leave. However, the trio's attempt to escape is blocked by the surrounding crowd, and the jig is up once Judge Peckinpah finds blue feathers in his coat. The judge begins reprimanding the three, but Red comes to their defense. Peckinpah ultimately orders Red to take the three home, concluding the story.

Notes[]
- ↑ In The Angry Birds Movie 2, a different character named Betty appears as the Blues' mother.
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 Despite being distinguished by their eye colors, the Blues have been inconsistently identified across different sources. For example, Jay is described as both the green-eyed Blue in the Angry Birds Blues episode "Flight Club" and the blue-eyed one in the episode "First Love". For consistency, this page uses the Blues' eye colors as depicted in Angry Birds Match.
