Timber Tumble is the twelfth episode of Angry Birds Rio and the fourth in the Rio 2 section. It is set within the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. The chapter was introduced alongside Hidden Harbor in the 2.2.0 update to the game, which was released in July 2014. Timber Tumble has marmosets as targets and introduces several logging-based gimmicks. As with most chapters in the Rio 2 section, this episode has 20 main levels, as well as six Bonus Levels.[note 1]

Description[]

Timber Tumble is set deep into the Amazon rainforest during daytime. Most of the scenery is covered in all kinds of vegetation, and several cliffs and a rainbow can be seen in the background.

Gameplay[]

Like most episodes in the game, Timber Tumble uses marmosets as targets. The episode features various mechanical items, including machine parts, wrecking balls, and switches. As per the theme, indestructible logs are also used. These come in two forms: as wheels and thick, long blocks. Additionally, the tires from High Dive make occasional appearances. They are used to bounce objects away when hit.

Blu makes his return as a power-up, Call the Flock. When launched, he will call a large flock of birds and they will dive on the air, destroying structures and defeating marmosets if near. This version of Blu appears as part of the bird roster of the first two levels in Timber Tumble as well as two of him in the last bonus level, but can also be used as a power-up in other levels.

Overview[]

Image Level 3-star score[2] Tips
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 1 1 100,000 The player should launch Blu just above the marmoset standing on a stone block at the middle left of the structure; he will then summon his flock to cause major damage to the building and detonate the TNT box inside, crushing all the marmosets with the debris in the process.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 2 2 95,000 The player should launch Blu to the platform supporting the middle structure; his flock should thus destroy it and also cause the debris to hit the vulnerable leftmost marmosets. Then, the player can launch the first Chuck to the platform of the far right structure, bringing it down as well.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 3 3 90,000 The first Red should be aimed straight towards the thin, vertical wooden slabs at the leftmost structure, bringing it down alongside its marmosets. Then, Bomb should be launched towards the stone blocks supporting the main compound; the combined effect of his own explosion plus the detonation of the TNT block inside should be enough to destroy it.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 4 4 120,000 The first Blue should be launched in an upward angle to hit the vertical glass support beam at the bottom left of the middle tower, bringing it down and causing its debris to destroy the left structure as well. Then, the first Chuck should be launched toward the rightmost tower to destroy it.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 5 5 180,000 The first Hal should be used to hit the switch beneath the slingshot, activating a vehicle nearby that will destroy most of the level. Only two structures made out of glass and stone should remain on each side; the first Blue can take down the one on the right and the second Hal the left one.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 6 6 100,000 The first Stella should be thrown to the gap between the two elevated logs, using her ability to take each of them with her bubbles to hit the support beams on each side of the main structure. This will leave an open clearing for the first Blue to strike at the heart of the building.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 7 7 125,000 The first Matilda should be launched beneath the first floating platform, dropping her Egg Bomb next to the transportation vehicle. This should trigger a chain reaction where the vehicle triggers a switch that drops TNT that destroys all of the right side of the level, as Matilda herself ricochets off the second floating platform and triggers the TNT block on the first one, causing the structure there to collide and also take down the two leftmost exposed marmosets.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 8 8 223,000 The first Red should hit the hanging log, making it trigger a single block of TNT next to it. This triggers a chain reaction that destroys most of the level, leaving only the left part of the level. The first Chuck should then be used to hit the stick holding still the logs on the highest floating platform, causing them to hit the leftmost structure.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 9 9 160,000 Matilda should be launched over the first tower and beneath the crane with the logs, and make her drop her Egg Bomb just to the left of the middle tower. This will cause her to hit the TNT blocks at the far right of the level and bring down the middle and right towers together. The first Chuck can then easily strike at the wooden support beams of the first tower to destroy it.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 10 10 152,000 The first Hal should be thrown over the structures so he can hit the wooden beam supporting the log at the far right, causing it to roll down the bottom half of the level and take down the marmosets there. Then, Chuck should be launched straight towards the log on the left so it does the same on the top half of the stage.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 11 11 150,000 The first Matilda should be launched so she drops her Egg Bomb just to the right of the middle cart, pushing it to the left and destroying the leftmost structure, as she hits the top right cart and causes it to hit the TNT blocks next to it for extra points. An opening at the bottom of the main building should be available for Bubbles to expand inside it, completely destroying it.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 12 12 182,000 The first Bomb should be launched in an upward angle, so he goes through the horizontal stone slab holding the logs at the top half of the level and detonates just to the right of the main structure. The logs should cause major damage to most of the structure, particularly by destroying the support beams at the bottom of the level holding it together. If the tower at the far right still stands, the player can use Terence to bring it down.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 13 13 170,000 The player should launch Matilda over most of the level and make her drop her Egg Bomb over the bridge at the top half, destroying both structures there, as well as the two leftmost towers at the bottom. The player can then launch Bubbles in an upward angle to make him roll through the glass support beams of the main structures and into the TNT box inside to destroy them.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 14 14 205,000 The player should wait for the swinging wrecking ball to approach the leftmost structure. With the correct time, they should launch Chuck so he bounces off the tire below the slingshot, making him destroy the far right structure and cause the wrecking ball to drop. Only the middle structure should remain, which Bomb can destroy.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 15 15 175,000 The player should make Hal hit the vertical wooden slab supporting the log in the middle of the level, making it drop down and activate a switch that causes logs to destroy the rightmost building. Then, the first Bomb can be launched to the small gap at the middle of the leftmost building so he destroys it with his explosion.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 16 16 248,000 For this level, the player should make Matilda drop her Egg Bomb in the small gap between the top left building and the bridge next to it, causing the latter and another one directly beneath to create two paths. Then, Hal should be launched to hit the top right car from the right so it falls onto the bottom left structure, also causing the car there to destroy the remaining structures.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 17 17 174,000 The first Terence should be launched in an upward angle so he rolls into the structures at the right, destroying them both. The second Terence should then be thrown towards the angled "branch" in the middle of the level so he triggers the switch to take down the remaining marmosets.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 18 18 190,000 It is recommended to launch the first Blue just beneath the catapult, aiming at the switch at the far right, which will trigger the catapult and destroy most of the level. Then, Matilda should be launched beneath the bridge, using her Egg Bomb as a way to propel herself towards the TNT barrel to destroy what remains of the level.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 19 19 182,000 Chuck should be launched in an upward angle so he goes down the hole in the middle of the level, destroying all but the bottom left structures. Then, Hal should fly over the level and go through the gap in the hole to strike at the surviving buildings.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble 20 20 348,000 For the final level, the first Chuck should be launched to the wooden beams at the bottom of the leftmost vehicle, leaving a gap for Matilda to bomb the TNT next to it and dislodge the small structure above it. This will leave a gap for Chuck to fly through the middle of the main structure and cause the rightmost vehicle to fall off the level. All that is left is for Hal to detonate the TNT at the bottom.

Golden Gear locations[]

Angry Birds Rio Golden Gear

A Golden Gear being collected.

A total of ten Golden Gears are hidden across Timber Tumble. Getting all of them unlocks the "Golden Gear" Bonus Level.

  1. Level 2: The gear can be found beneath the third platform. After the level has been cleared, the second Chuck can easily get it.
  2. Level 5: The gear rests at the far right of the level. It can be reached with the second Hal after the prior two birds have been used to clear the level as normal.
  3. Level 6: The gear can be found under a log right behind the slingshot. Stella should be used to lift it temporarily, allowing the first Blue to grab the gear.
  4. Level 7: The Golden Gear here sits beneath the slingshot. The player should make Matilda drop her Egg Bomb in between the two leftmost logs, making one roll towards the gear.
  5. Level 9: This gear is found exposed over the large branch at the top right of the level. Either Matilda or Chuck can reach it by aiming in an upward angle.
  6. Level 10: For this Golden Gear, the player should launch Hal over the structures and send him back through the bottom half of the level. He will eventually fall down a gap (which is too narrow for a log to go through) and grab the gear.
  7. Level 13: This Golden Gear is collected by making Matilda hit the little structure at top right; the debris will then hit the gear.
  8. Level 16: The Golden Gear is found just beneath the slingshot and can only be reached with Hal's boomerang ability.
  9. Level 17: All three Terences should be launched to the angled branch so they bounce off the tire below. The first two Terences will clear the bottom right structure, giving the final one a clear path to grab the Golden Gear at the far right of the level.
  10. Level 18: The final Golden Gear is exposed at the top right of the level. The Blue should be launched to the glass pane supporting the catapult so it falls down, giving Chuck (who follows Matilda) a path to get the gear.

Golden Lock location[]

In earlier versions, the Hidden Harbor episode could only be unlocked by getting a "Golden Lock" in Timber Tumble, although now it can also be obtained by buying it in the shop when it is available as an offer or by beating Timber Tumble normally.

  • Level 14: The Golden Lock is found behind the slingshot. The player can easily get it by launching Chuck to the left let him roll along the branches. He will eventually reach a bush with the lock inside.[3]

Bonus Levels[]

Image Level 3-star score[2] Tips
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble Bonus Level 1 30 Star Bonus Level 191,000 The first Bomb should be launched in an upward angle, so that he hits the horizontal stone beam supporting the rightmost structure and also destroys all of the level outside of the leftmost building. The second Bomb can then be fired to the hole in the far right and sent flying by a contraption there to the middle of the center, where he will detonate some TNT blocks and destroy the remaining structure.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble Bonus Level 2 40 Star Bonus Level 186,000 The first Chuck should be fired in an upward angle so he flies just below the large branch, causing the wrecking ball to destroy all but the leftmost structure. Bomb can then be launched, also in an upward angle, to make him bounce off a tire in the middle of the level and into the far left fortress to destroy it.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble Bonus Level 3 50 Star Bonus Level 189,000 Stella should be launched over most of the level and lift the boulder at the top right portion with her bubbles, making it trigger some TNT at the far right and trigger a switch that will destroy most of the rest of the level. If any marmosets remain, they can be taken down with Matilda.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble Bonus Level 4 7 Feather Bonus Level[note 2] 170,000 The first Bubbles should be launched so he flies just underneath the floating platform at the top left and rolls to the hanging wooden platform; his inflation should destroy that portion of the level. The second Bubbles can then be lofted in an upward angle so he falls in the gap between the two main structures, using his inflation technique to destroy both.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble Bonus Level 5 15 Feather Bonus Level[note 2] 270,000 Chuck should be launched towards the bottom path at the top right of the level, which will lead him to destroy the wooden support beam of the rightmost structure and trigger a chain reaction that destroys the entire half of the stage. Then, Matilda can use her Egg Bomb to loft herself to the bottom left support beam of the left structure to destroy it as well.
Angry Birds Rio Timber Tumble Bonus Level 6 Golden Gear Bonus Level 210,000 The first Blu should be fired towards the tires at the bottom. If angled right, he should end up next to the support stone blocks at the middle of the first structure. His ability should be used here to bring that building down. Then, the second Blu can be lofted to the gap leading to the support blocks of the second structure so he can use his ability there to cause that fortress to crumble down as well.
